That brought back some memories, double deck trams and double decked buses, I just loved riding around on them back in the early 1980's. Downtown Hong Kong had that vibrancy and mood that couldn't be replicated in Singapore. Star Ferries, hydrafoil to Macau and get the ferry back, what days they were. Gee that 14 minutes went quick, cracking video.

thanks! My childhood memory when I travel to the Hong Kong Island (yes it was a trip for someone living in Kowloon side, taking a ferry crossing the harbour). Downstairs are the economy class and upstairs you pay more. Carriage is very narrow and made of wood panels inside. I remember the trailer cars. The points are set by someone sitting near the junctions who switch depending on tram's destination. When I grew up and went back from Sydney I caught the trams again just to relive the memories. Very slow in today's standard compared to their MTR.

Glad you like it. Apparently the MTR did not greatly affect tram patronage because the tram was much cheaper and was much more suitable for shorter journeys with tram stops much closer than subway stations.

@@tressteleg1 that makes sense. When I was little children fare was HKD 10cents and there was conductors that sold tickets. Later they switched to pay in the coin box on exit in the front door so that driver can monitor it. I think the price was still around $2 many years later. Just looked it up it had a "massive" fare increase from HKD 2.60 to 3.00 (60cents in AUD). Worth every cents just for nostalgia.

The wheels, motors, rest of the metalwork under the floor of these trams is very much heavier than what is above. It would take really excessive speed around a corner to flip one over. However similar trams in England in the past did occasionally get blown over by gale force winds. Nevertheless that was quite rare.

And the old airport of Hongkong when you just fly a few meters over the city😉

I remember landing in Hong Kong at night and looking straight out the aircraft window into the windows of apartment buildings beside the landing strip!

I lived not far from the old airport and from my balcony on third floor I watched a plane pass by every few minutes. Not that close but you can see each windows distinctly. Felt very noisy when the family moved to that place but eventually I didn't notice any more. The folks living in Kowloon City had it much worse.

@@tressteleg1 yes I could see what they were cooking in the kitchen when the plane banked! It needed a sharp 90 degrees turn approaching the runway when the plane reach Kowloon city. There are video clips of the landings in KZitem, showing how tricky it was.

I used to know a young lady in Hong Kong. One night during a short stay there I was flying home that evening. She said I could leave my bags at her sister’s place near the airport, and I did that. After dinner we went for my bags and I said where is the airport? She pointed down to the end of her street, and there it was, 200 m away, the front entrance to the airport!
