20:14 that's an ear thermometer disposable cap to prevent getting earwax on the thermometer itself 😬

According to newspaper articles at the time, the Vortex Power was launched 16th October 2000. Dyson won their claim early October. This one had serial number 0042 so year 2000, week 42. Week 42 in 2000 (according to Google) started… yep, 16th October. So this must have been one of the first machines off the line at Cambuslang - which is 10 minutes away from me. Sad as I am - I drove along the new housing estate there - particularly along Hoover Drive, Kirby Road, Spangler Crescent etc.

These were never sold in the US but bagged vacuums were still quite popular in the 2000’s here in the US since many bagless vacuums had filters that needed to be cleaned about every month since they got clogged with dust and dirt. Since Dyson’s patents have expired on cyclonic technology around 2010, many bagless vacuums have been implementing them and I think even Bissell uses them in their vacuums now along with Hoover.

@@huskyvacs I was at Walmart the other day and only saw 1 bagless vacuum for sale and all the rest were bagless. I remember my parent’s bought a 2008 Bissell bagless vacuum and it worked fairly well but had to clean the filters every single month or else it would loose suction and wouldn’t work too well. One summer day back in 2011 I decided to revive the Kirby Legend II that had been sitting in the garage and cleaned off all the hair that was wrapped all around the brush roll and motor shaft and unclogged the emptor and brought it back to life and ever since then there have been no worries about cleaning any sort of filters at all.

Their patents have only run out for dual cyclone, not root cyclone or anything else they've done recently.

The vortex was launched in early 1999. I first remember seeing the advert then seeing them in Argos and Index catalouges. Although I would say this particular model would have been made after the Dyson lawsuit as it is modified.

The Vortex power launched 16 October 2000. Dyson won 3 October 2000.. This has serial number 0042 - week 42 year 2000. Week 42 started 16th October that year so must have been one of the first off the line

@alwl89 the original Vortex did. The Vortex Power - the one in the video - didn’t launch (along with the other two lower variants - black and red I believe) until October 2000. Maybe read things properly before you post. I mean, I did post it twice as you’ve pointed out.

@alwl89 a fake and spammer? 😂 I’m many things but not those. I’ve been into vacuums since I was 2 years old. I watch and rewatch Roger’s (and others) videos. Infact, I bought one off of Roger last year. I am the least fake person and certainly not a spammer.

I remember going through many many of the original vortex machines, didn’t matter how much and How well you cleaned it out the dirt still got into the motor, the filters were crappy, I had waited so long for hoover to release a proper cyclonic vacuum and I was so disappointed, if I remember rightly my first one had the motor changed 3 times, then the whole Machine replaced, then another 2 motors in that one then replaced again all in the space of 12 months, was such a shame they rushed the design

Glad you are showing this, I dislike intensely bagless vacuums. A vintage Electrolux will out clean this and anything new, with the exception of Sebo. I never tried to use a Sebo, as someone I know was selling Sebo 30 years ago!
