Hop Along is just one of the best bands ever, the more you listen to it, the more subtle nuances you hear, especially in the studio albums. Their use of distortion and noise is just genius, and incredibly rich and complex.

“Horseshoe Crabs” is a total and utter masterpiece- never fails to make me feel things, it’s so emotional and beautiful in every sense of the way. It’s one of those songs that generates and makes me picture the whole story (and stories that link to its general narrative) of it with so much emotion and power Probably my top favorite song by them right next to “Diamond Mine” and “Look of Love”

well-dressed is honestly one of my favorite songs of the past decade. Such a great band, and she's getting better and better at sounding as good live as she does on the album. There's a little muted guitar riff part that was left out at the end of well dressed though, and that bothered my because I really liked that part. Acoustic guitar could have been mic'd a little better as well.

Man I've been listening to them for years now and I haven't gotten a chance to see them live yet, but I gotta say it's on my bucket list at this point. They came to Montreal, but it was two days after I was admitted to fucking rehab :( It was residential and I'd been on a waiting list for a while, and not going on that date would have meant postponing my recovery for possibly months, which would have been more months of mainlining heroin and pouring benzos down my gullet... And yet I was actually really close to just saying fuck it and going to the Hop Along show instead. I ended up doing the rehab, and I'm clean and sober now, but it still nags at me that they came to my city and I had to miss the show. Now they have no tour dates up, and they might never come back here :(

I loved all the songs...took three listens so far. Of the three, Horseshoe Crabs was my favorite. Overall, I totally love the grit in her vocals. Not sure what was with the cracking in the last two songs (sounded strained in some areas...could be from singing up top-neck & chest); but it happens to even the best artists. Regardless, I loved the lyrics and the music. I could feel the passion and sincerity behind the songs. Going back to Saddle Creek for a second listen there to see which is my favorite of the 10 posted there.

Like there's as many people listening to the pop radio stuff as there are people listening to any particular genre of music that's not on the radio, you get what I mean? Maybe not, but billboard pop music is worse than it's ever been, but at the same time the music world is waaaaaaaay more diverse than it's ever been as well. People complain about living in these times as music fans, but personally as a music nerd I'm glad I'm listening to music in this era.
