In 2003 a partnership between Edmonton's Emergency Response Department and Hope Mission, in cooperation with the Edmonton Police Service began the "Man Down" project, now known as the Ministry Van. The goal of the project is to provide care to those in need while freeing up valuable Emergency Services response time. The Ministry Van does not provide medical care; it exists to provide basic human care for people living on the streets who may be in need, or in crisis, while also providing spiritual, emotional and social support.
The Ministry Van makes over 4000 trips each year, taking men, women, and youth to warm, safe, shelters and responds to over 600 "Man Down" calls from the Edmonton Police Service. The Van also provides over 12,500 lunches and 6,000 cups of coffee to people on the streets every year.
