Canny seeing the streets and scenes of where I grew up until I left when I was 16 to join the Forces. Brought back some lovely memories. As a Sunday paper lad there was nothing like seeing the sun rising on the sea, Church Bells ringing and the Pit noises clanking away and everyone so friendly. Glad I did not have to go down the Pit like my Dad, Uncles and Grandads. Wonderful video, Thanks very much.

Lovely watching this. My step grandad Phil George worked at Horden mine. Sure I saw him on a photo on video. My nan lived on Thorpe Road then Station Road Easington. Only saw them couple times a year as we lived down south. In 70,s I remember being taken to watch the miners gala. Remember the bandstand in the park. Lovely memories I have of visiting my baba back then.

Thanks for posting this. My Granda Henry Harland lived in Horden and worked down the pit all his working life. My mam Irene Harland was born in 8th St, went to the "Tin School" and was married in the church at the start of the video in 1948. Her brother Harry is the one grasstrack racing his bike at 7:13 in the video. Thanks again.

Sadly all the mines have gone and the community spirit and comradeship has been replaced with crime and desolation. The north east pit villages are now Slums with Pubs youth clubs shops closed down.

Born in Horden at me grandmas house on 8th Street, lived in 4th street and then Shotton road until I left the area 1970s (no jobs). All my family (men) worked in pit and women in shops. When I was a lad it was a great place, now its a dump sad to say. Dad passed a year ago, so no longer visit the place.

So what happened to the industry that was supposed to have replaced the mining in Britain? Politicians in Westminster should be forced to walk around Horden for the day and get a grip of reality!
