This was not only the final flight of this aircraft type. It was also the final flight of this captain's career.

I was just watching the opening and thinking to myself, "Let me guess, this is the captain's retirement flight, too?" Glad they landed safely, because last flight of type and captain's retirement flight combined are too tantalizing a plot device for this not to be a 70s made-for-TV movie starring Pernell Roberts or Lloyd Bridges or something.

It was really fun to sit across the aisle from you on this flight and share our mutual dislike of oneworld and American Airlines! Thanks for coming all the way from FL to be on this special flight. Nice work Emil:)

When I watch presentations such as this retirement of an aircraft from the fleet it makes me feel old. My first commercial flight was aboard a Super G Constellation on Eastern Airlines. I’ve flown during the “golden years” aboard everything from DC-6 and 7, the Vickers Viscount, Electra and Vanguard to the 707, DC-8, Sud Caravelle, 727 etc. Yes, I’ve had the PRIVILEGE of participating in Aviation history. Good on you for doing the same. 😉👍🏻

Thanks, your best yet! I have so many Q400 memories to share having worked at STS when these were our only commercial planes. I worked security so have been in many if these without passengers. I flew LAX STS many times as well when moving. 👍👍👍

This actually hurts. The Q400 made some diversity in the airline industry and we’re losing prop aircraft at a fast pace. Thank you for recording this. Imagine all the pilots now that either are retiring or have to train for a whole new aircraft type since there’s no Q400 airlines in the US. Idk why, but it makes me sad.

These airplanes, down to the 100 model , ring true in all of those folks who grew up in the Northwest. These airplanes were the first step in an adventure for more than 40 years. Will miss the sound of the props feathering out.

Great video! We have family in the Vancouver BC area, so when I was younger we would either fly into Seattle and take a 30-minute flight on the Q400 or drive to Vancouver. Back when they didn't share the same livery as Alaska.

Having lived in both Spokane and Portland, I have made those flights many times, and in fact, my last flight on a Q400 was a couple of years ago flight from PDX to SEA and back when heading through Alaska flights to the midwest. Knew this day was coming when more and more Q400 flights were replaced by in the corridor were being replaced by either the E175 or Alaska mainline flights with the 737. My last ever real meal in economy in the US was on a Horizon flight between Spokane and Portland on their Fokker F28 regional jets in the late 90's.

I've flown the Q400 a few times when I lived in the PNW. So its truly the end of an era. Wish the last flight was PDX-SEA, but alas GEG-SEA will do. I believe the Horizon CEO is over a decade late at 22:00 when he said that there has never been a simultaneous type retirement and pilot retirement. When Pre-Merger United Airlines retired the classic 737-300 in 2009, the captain (Captain Russo) retired as well from United. I remember listening to LiveAtc for that final UA737 flight from LAX-SFO as the SFO tower ATC wished the captain and 737 a happy retirement. A type retirement is a bucket list item for me. Maybe when United retires the 757 in a few years...who knows. Good series of videos here!

Awesome and eeire seeing the last two Q400s that I myself flew on (Huskies last September, Portland to Seattle, and retro ("meatball") last Saturday, the 21st. I attended an event in Portland with friends on the 22nd and was not able to find a Q400 flight back to Seattle that evening; so I had booked a flight on the E175. However, as we were leaving the gate area, I saw the Huskies Q400, parked and dark, and assumed it was spending the night at PDX. So it turns out that it was also one of the last Q400s to fly. Thank you for your excellent video coverage of the last flights! I regret I couldn't be on one of them, but KZitem videos definitely help make up for it a little! I think the E175 is a cute little jet (and at airports like SEA, PDX, Boise, etc., passengers will still have to walk outside to board it). And even though I'm personally acquainted with a Horizon Captain on the E175 (private pilot for nearly 40 years, Horizon Air pilot for nearly 6) and who I've known for 35 years, I still think the Q400 has/had way more character and I'm missing it so badly already!! ☹️
