Okay. For those that say they load the slug in the wad, and then use the "wad ram" to insert them both in place. Ummm...show me videos. I will be making an updated video soon, with Lee Key 7/8oz slugs, and show you how this can be done...with a serious modification. Stay tuned. CancelPost

Sorry for the delayed response, Joe. First-off, I ONLY load slugs, so that is an easy one for me. But secondly, you can also shake them a bit while holding them close to your ear. Bird shot will "rattle," whereas the slugs will not. And if your hearing is bad, use a scale. I am using Lyman 525-grain sabot slugs. Closer to a 1 1/4 ounce shot, than a 1 1/8 ounce shot.

the way my grandpa always taught me to tell the difference is to crimp your shot shells with an 8 star crimp and your slugs with a 6 star crimp. just alittle thing that helps out

Yes...the performance is as expected. Because of the shape of the round (heavy front, hollow rear), it flies true up to 50 yards through a smooth bore. That is as far as I've needed to shoot it in Multigun matches.

Great videos. I'm interested in buying a press to load 00 buckshot and maybe #4 buckshot for home defense. Do you plan on making a video on that? Also, where can I buy the Hornady Versetite wads used in the Critical Defense and TAP line of shotshells?

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I dont use my office PC too much, and I didn't feel like typing on my DROID. Anyhoo...for shotgun stuff, try Graff & Sons, Ballistic Products (one of my favorites), Midsouth Shooters Supplies, or Gamaliel Shooting Supply. For powder, try Powder Valley, or any other large supplier. (Midway USA, etc...). Hope that helped.

Because this interests you. Nothing wrong with that. Not too many people know that as Americans we can custom-make our own shooting ammunition.

Sorry for the looooooooong delay. But the answer depends on the load you are using. Personally, with my Lyman 525-grain sabot slugs, I am using 25 grains of Universal Clays. But is varies, as I sometimes use 24, 25, or even 26-grain powder bushings. Depends what I am using the slugs for (hunting or multigun competitions), and the length of the barrel used. The longer the barrel, the higher/longer sustained the pressures, the faster the round. Hope that helped.

If you are asking if I can reload 3 1/4" hulls ON THIS machine...umm...I'm not sure. I don't see why not, as I just need to adjust the height the plate rises. But in all honesty, I'm not absolutely sure. (Too lazy to dig out the manual).

Yo. I'm a novice shooter, and I don't know too much about ballistics on a detailed technical level. The shotgun I own can't fire slugs, but eventually I plan on purchasing one that does. As of now I don't know if I'm actually going to rechamber ammunition on a regular basis, but regardless, where can I learn all I need to learn that would permit me to rechamber without killing myself or wrecking my shotgun? Besides load data, that is. I want to know everything.

Not that I am aware of. I have seen some crazy automated stuff by the Italians for rifle and pistol cartridges...but not for shotshell stuff. Too many gadgets leaves room for errors and parts failing. The simpler the better, in my book.

No, Andy. The rod in the wad section touches the very bottom of the wad when seating it. It would not work if I had the slug in there.
