I really like Hornwort, I have it in my goldfish pond and it provides shade and cover for the fish, I’m in the UK and it stays in the pond over the Autumn/Winter period when it will sink to the bottom and turn dark in colour and brittle to the touch, then comes back green again in the Spring/Summer. Brilliant plant 😊

I loved hornwort, it actually is kind of beautiful when healthy and clean. I had a small clump that would grow leaps in bounds in my planted aquarium, you could see tons of oxygen bubbling off of it. It only sheds when you either don't have the lighting it needs or nutrients. The more light you have the more nutrients it needs too so you need to be mindful there but a cheap liquid fertilizer does wonders. My one tank was able to produce so much hornwort I could sell massive clumps every 2 days if anyone was buying lol but most of the time I'd trim massive chunks off of it and feed it to my large water turtle, seemed to love the stuff.

I just bought horn wart from my local pet store, it was labeled as a bunch plant and has a band at the bottom. In the store it was planted. Question, should I take the band off? And can I attach it to an aquarium decoration so that it stays in place? I currently have the bunch tucked into the hole of a log. The bottom of the plant hangs down into the middle of the log. Good idea, bad idea?
@thesmallscape

Firstly, thank you, Joanne, for all your great videos. However I do have a question about a banana plant which seems to be ‘multiplying’. A couple of the leaves floating on the surface are growing roots at a rapid rate, as are a couple of leaves which have been severed from their stalks. I have no idea what is going to happen next, or if I need to do something so that these new growths survive. Have you had any experience with this? It’s fascinating to watch, but I need to know if there is something I need to do so they don’t exhaust their energy and die.
@ragingcalmness7815

Why are so many people using commercial products instead of setting up a secondary tank with proper filter material made out of real live plants that catch all excess nutrients inside the water? Seems to me like the aquarium hobby has become more about short-term beautification and much less about the incredible potential it can provide for creativity as a functioning machine. I see a lot of videos promote stuff that is nonsense, like every plant will help with waste inside the aquariums but they never tell you that the ones that grow faster will also do a better job at it. It's also funny to watch those aquariums full of plants with accelerated growth due to CO2 injection which also helps deplete the tank of nutrients faster since there is nothing to decompose that plant material and get it back into the soil/water, so later people are running crazy trying to figure out the "trace" elements that are missing in their aquariums. It's 2022 and it seems like the aquarium hobby should have been made much simpler by now, or is it just me? I know I am crazy, I see it every day in the mirror lol

In fact I have two communities and they're in a smaller tank but they're happy. After viewing this video I guess I will not try to plant it in the sub-straight. The important thing is it grows so easily and gives the fry a place to hide and live plants make the fish feel secure. Also as you say it helps to clean the water of nitrates. If I get to much it will go into the blender to make home made fish food.

LOVE my Hornwort! I cultivate it in my Nano tanks so there's no algae, and put the excess into my Patio Pond, where it just thrives and gives the babies a hide. LOVE the Green!!

I have them in my nano tanks & wondering why I'm still getting algae. My hornworts r a dark green, not the nice light green.

I know this is a older vid, but can i use hornwort only floating in a nano tank so it doesn't rob nutrients from other plants. Will it help keep the tank clean?
