To see the horses in slow motion shows the power, beauty and grace of these magnificent animals. Video filmed at 240fps Sony HDR AX2000... music by Tryad - 05 Your God

This video is awesome. It is so cool to watch everything in slow motion and see the detail such as facial expressions and muscle tone, etc. Thank you so much JCV for putting these videos out. I live in Falkland and busy working at the rodeo all weekend, so I never got to see much of it, so it is great to be able to watch these.

Amen. Horses don't "act". They react, to what's being forced upon them, like the flank forcing them to buck.
@OliveDeuce

1. The horses in the beginning are pulling a heavy load. These are stocky horses and are bred for this work. 2. Barrel racing horses don't really have soft mouths and are very well trained for top speed barrel events. 3. The cows that are used are trained to run the chute. In the end their necks are stretched and massaged so they are not sore. 4.Yes that is what the strap is for and the horses do not get zapped it is against the law and it is inhumane. 5. All the animals are treated with respect and are never hurt just for entertainment.

Broncs are such beautiful animals. They're so big, powerful and colorful! I don't like the danger they are put in, but I realize they are trained to buck. I've read that they can be trained to buck for one event, and to ride in another the same day. I've ridden at least two retired broncs in the horse club I was in as a kid, and the place my friend's client goes for therapy employs retired broncs too. Horses are willing to give so much to us, despite abuse. I think they deserve the best treatment.

I've seen one horse killed in three years of rodeoing. It was just a freak accident. Nobody wanted it to happen. I've seen one other horse injured too. The injury rate of animals collectively in the PRCA is .0047% as well. So not that many animals are even getting hurt.

I believe he/she means that people bred these horses for the soul purpose to be used in rodeos and to buck. I agree that its not natural...but neither is the majority of things that humans do. I barrel race, and the horse I ride loves it. And its not like we only practice and compete, we go out on trail rides all the time. And a friend and I race all the time with each other, which I believe he loves because he always hauls ass without much encouragement.

For you people calling it abuse: The horses pulling are pulling on their own. They are bred for that and built for it. There is no whipping or beating. The steer wrestling - Get over it, it doesn't hurt the cow none. Cows are a whole hell of a lot sturdier than a man is.Barrel racing - Those horses know their jobs. Only the horses with a heart for barrels are taken to the rodeo game. And the bucking horses? For christs sake, the straps are fucking fleece nowadays. And they aren't being shocked.

@maddybright5183

Actually they are trained to buck. If you looked into the sport, you would realise, that the winner of each round, does a victory lap riding the horse that bucked them off. they have the flank strap, which is why they buck, it doesn't hurt them, but simply annoy. These horses are most likely treated better than your own. Travelling long distances in the tailor, they stand on massage pads so their muscles don't lock up.

It's not tight. For one, it's called a flank strap, and if it was tight the horse wouldn't move. Second, a horse in pain submits, it doesn't fight. They are not in pain, nor are they terrorized. They love doing what they do. They're trained and bred to do it from the day they're born.

Bulls and horses pretty much only buck when someones on their back. I`ve seen bulls act normally even with the strap once they knock the person off,even going over to drink water. Draft horses are bred and conditioned to pull,and none where injured and acted fine afterwards at a competition I went to. If the horses where having troubles they would unhook them right away.

they`re actually pretty small spurs, and barrel racing is probably the least cruel of the rodeo events, it can hurt their joints, but it`s not like calf roping where half the calves break their necks, and it`s not like the bronc( i think i spelled that wrong ) ridding where the horse are shocked with a cattle prod or anything. that girl was using her spurs rather harshly but certainly not disgustingly, i`ve seen five year olds use spurs with more crulty than that.

No it's not. It's not tight at all, because if it were, it would keep them from moving. Not to mention, it loosens with each kick. It's only there to enhance the motion, the horse will buck without it. It's safer WITH the flank for the horse than it is without it.

Guys, these are opinions, i believe riding "Broncos" like this is abuse. Im not gonna judge anyone of there personal opinion. I do know that horses can take About 20x more pain than humans can. I will use spurs BUT the western spurs to have the pointy thing (Sorry i don't know what they are called) I do not use spurs on my horse. (He would freak out bc he was abused in the past) But yes. I do believe the is animal abuse. Im not AT ALL saying western riders are horse abusers. I have many friends who ride western. I am an English rider. Sometimes my horse may need a crop but thats it. And if i do use spurs (NOT on my horse) its only the little nubby ones. So DONT judge people on there own personal opinions!

I'm sure there is regret from many of the rough stock riders. I once saw a bucking horse fall the rider jumped off and ran over and tried to calm it. I was really close and up could tell he cared. Not saying everyone does. The thing with other events is there is an emotional attachment to the horses being ridden they have owners and trainer that love them very much and see them every day. Its a different horses every ride for the rodeo people.

@Jackivivor Those horses are cared for very well and are not in any pain. If the flank strap is put on too tight it does the opposite of what it should and resticts the bucking movement. They used to break horses by doing that. And as for the cows, I would rather be tackled twice a weekend than killed. But thats just me.

Could you site your "scientific" sources. It's a bit ridiculous to think that horses doesn't feel pain. A horse can feel a fly bite it's hide in a wind storm and engage the muscle just in that area to quiver to rid itself of the pest. Please enlighten me how you think they don't feel the uneven distribution of weight of a rider or tack.
@JesuscantergallopTB

Well what they don't tell you is that they shock the horse before he breaks out of the fence bucking. That's why they buck like that. Horses buck for fun only a few seconds; and their demeanor in fun is not even close to what people see in the video. I've gentled abused horses and been around them long enough to see the difference between happy buck and upset buck.

Why don't you go watch some of the slaughter videos so you can complain about something that actually needs to change? I see the calves all the time where I ride at. You know once the rider comes off the horse stop buckig. If it were the strap making them buck they wouldn't stop bucking. But once the person is off they just trot around until they are let out of the arena. The strap makes the buck straighter. up and down instead of side to side which is dangerous for both horse and rider.

I've been to rodeo events in New Zealand where animals have died because of injuries sustained during the event. This is not a once off thing, this happens every year at these events. I hear you trying to assure me that people such as yourself treat these animals well and don't intend harm, but despite this deaths and injuries happen year after year. At what point are you going to be willing to sacrifice a sport hobby for the welfare of all animals involved in these events overall? If people can't all be trusted to not injure these animals at rodeo, the practice should be stopped altogether.
@emathisa977

Dude I was literally raised on a rodeo ground in the USA. If you managed to hurt an animal you lost all of your titles and were disqualified for the year which is a huge loss of investment. I've never once seen an animal die, even a bull that tore the face off a bull rider was still happily bucked the next year. Most people would have wanted to euthanize it.
