I just love Elijah. He’s so calm, professional and empathic. He doesn’t take risks with horses that have difficulty with farrier work. I like the fact sedation is used with those cases so no harm or unnecessary stress is put on the horse or Elijah. Horse plus are leading the way with how farrier work should be done. Well done Elijah and well done Vet and training team on the good example you are setting in the rescue world and hoof care.

I must take a moment to thank the entire "video/media/cinematography" team (not sure of the correct term!). You do an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING JOB...from filming to editing to final video! Each episode gets (impossibly) better and we feel as if we are right there IRL!! The "interviews" with staff also get better and better. Just overall everyone doing a great job! This goes for Elijah too...he is so wonderful with the horses, clearly does fantastic work, and explains things (to us) so well. I'm sure donors like Bob Barker and the wonderful woman funding the new intake barn are so proud to support such a WONDERFUL organization as HPHS. THANK YOU EVERYONE for all you do! 🐎💛 Janice

I am so thrilled that Horse Plus will be starting to do educational work in addition to caring for the animals. This is a terrific way to raise their profile, and get their message out to a wider audience. Educating people about horses is the first step towards better care and treatment for them. Also, having worked in the non-profit world for many years, I can tell you that having an education program and offering regular classes is a great way to generate predictable income, which means being less dependent on donations.

During the 1980's and '90's I was president of our provincial horse and pony rescue society. I took in horses and ponies that were either seized or surrendered by owners. I also conducted educational sessions for owners who were not caring for their animals properly. In my experience, the education had no effect. The owners continued to neglect their horses, not get their hooves trimmed, and let the horses get so skinny. I bought one Standardbred for $100 - a horse that had not even been given water for more than a week. Took that horse to my own 3-stall stable. That owner continued to starve horses. Now, the provincial SPCA refuses to have anything to do with investigating equine abuse. They leave it up to the police - who give this issue no priority and have no knowledge of horses. Writing from Newfoundland Labrador Canada.

Look at those happy horses and donkeys romping in the pastures. What a sight to see knowing most of them were only days away from a horrific ending. Now they will live happy for however long they have left. Love it! I am challenging ALL fans who watch Horse Plus all the time. I don't know how many actual loyal followers there are, but I know if every single one of us who DO watch every episode would sign up for a set automatic donation monthly, that would be really helpful to Tawnee as it would at least give her an idea of what the base donation amount will be each month. Surely we all can afford 5 or 10 dollars a month, give up that expensive coffee or some other silly thing and sign up for auto donation each month. Then we can also donate more as we can afford to above that pledge of a base amount. I cannot imagine the stress it puts on Tawnee making the decision to accept more calls from traders who want to bring trailers to take advantage of the buy out program. I believe they are paying $500 per horse sight unseen. that adds up quickly. I am hoping that all the fans who read this will join me in setting up auto donation for every month. We can do it, I know we can.

I know who you mean Schiffon. I don’t understand why sedation isn’t used more often at the other rescue. It saves unnecessary stress and injury to both the horses and the farrier. Especially in stock situations with the big draft horses, I actually dread farrier time at the other place because you just know there is going to be some sort of drama. It’s completely unnecessary, especially as they have a vet there at the same time who could administer sedation carefully to those horses who need it. I don’t like calling out rescues because they do such incredible work but I wish they would look at their farrier situation as potentially damaging.

What’s your refeeding program? I’ve found information online that says you follow the UC Davis refeeding diet but haven’t seen any alfalfa hay or any skinny horses gaining any significant amount of weight. Also one month will never be enough time for a horse to recover from a low body score. Atlas deserves more time. He doesn’t deserve to have his chance at a good life cut short because you keep getting more animals
