Spirit Mediums of maHosana dress in black. They are of Kalanga background. Kalangas were part of the Rozvi empire. MaHosana are found in Matabeleland Zimbabwe and Botswana. They regard Njelele in Matobo Zimbabwe as a spiritual place and Njelele is the place where rain ceremonies were performed asking God for a good rainy season.

FYI This dance is performed by the Bakalanga people when asking for rain from the Bakalanga deity (Mwali). It can also be performed to request ancestors to stop the floods as well as thanking ancestors for a good harvest. A similar dance is performed in Zimbabwe along Plumtree areas and Tsholotsho.
