Go to a Navy recriuter sign up, while your in colledge waiting study for the asvab. Make sure you dont take a pakage program, Ask for the corpsman program. When you get to A-school score above 84% for your total average and put it on your dream sheet. I am a Corpsman my self.

Still want to be a SARC? Take the ASVAB, score well enough to get a GT score of 110 or better, PT your ass off: push-ups situps squats running and SWIMMING... When you talk to your recruiter tell them exactly what you want, because the Navy wants SARCs, so if a recruiter doesn't want to do the leg work for you, get a new recruiter that does. Get HM-A school in your contract, hope to god you can get FMTB in your contract as it's very difficult in this peacetime Navy. IF you can get a SARC pipeline guarantee, get that in writing on your contract. You will screen for BRC at Field Medical Traning Battalion. The screening consists of 500 meter swim utilizing the combat side stroke, or breast stroke. Practice these strokes. After you do your 500M swim you will preform max set situps in 2 min, max set push-ups in 2 min, max set straight arm pull-ups... Practice pull-ups with correct Palms facing away from you form!!! Once you perform those three tasks, you will run 1 1/2 miles in either boots and utilities or PT uniform if you're lucky.. Aim for 9 1/2 minutes while training and you'll be fine.. That is the basic NSW/SO physical fitness test... You want to perform at the highest level you can for this test because even though you meet minimum standards on this Test, they may not elect to accept you to go to BRC. IF they elect you to continue the pipeline, you will go to BRC, Jump school, dive school, amphibious reconnaissance corpsman school, and 18-D SOCM at which point upon completion off all those schools, you will be one of the finest warriors to grace the fleet... But that's only the beginning for a SARC... Having proven yourself to the Navy and Marine Corps, you can go to sniper school, ranger school, pathfinder school, jump master, dive supervisor, foreign weapons instructor, HRST master, Mountain Leaders course the list goes on... I am not a SARC but believe me when I tell you, I know a bunch of them and I have been with the Recon community for 6 years now -HM2(FMF) Bellar

All you said is correct but for those advanced training like ranger,sniper, ect you are put on a list with fellow Recon Marines and they sometimes get first dibbs. But keep trying the sky is the limit if you stay at your peak you will get those schools 1st chance, I know I was a SARC for 10 yrs went thru a butt load of schools from all branchs. The breack down: - FMF Corpsman (NEC 8404) are awarded the NEC 8427 uponsuccessful completion of the five courses in the training pipeline: Basic Reconnaissance Training Company (BRTC), USMC Combatant Diver (MCD), Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman (ARC), Basic Airborne (JUMP), and FMF Reconnaissance Technician Special Operation Combat Medic-18D (SOCM). -HMCS (SARC) Rich, RET

I recently swore in to the U.S. Navy as an Hospital Corpsman (HM) and I've seriously been considering working with the Marines, for I think it would be a great experience. What types of things should I expect? And I can't wait to be out their supporting lives and helping people get home safe.

Expect to be the odd man out when you arrive at your Marine Corps unit. Fleet Marine Force service is hard, and you will be expected to earn your spot. That means a lot of mud, more mosquito bites than you dare imagine, late hours caring for a wounded man while others rest, and being loaded down with extra life saving equipment that you may never need. You'll treat swamp foot, stitch together bloody eyebrows, and examine a million sore joints. Then, one day, without notice or ceremony, the first Marine in your unit will call you "Doc." Then they all start calling you Doc. You have earned their trust, and there is *nothing* a Marine won't do for their Doc. And they have also become *your* Marines. Every heartbeat, your Marines. Not the Marines, not the Marines in your unit. My Marines. . . What should you expect? Hard damn work shipmate. And a bonding experience that far exceeds any sacrifice you make along the way. @@bradleyh3103 You forgot one very important thing. You'll never have to buy a beer. About 18 years ago, I had to make a 500 mile trip to my grandmothers funeral in Terre Haute, Indiana. When I dot to North Terre Haute, I saw this new building that had "Marine Corp League on it. Never heard of it before as we don't have o0ne here in Branson. I thought I better check it out after granny's funeral. When everything was over with around 1800, I stop there, long story short, I wake up the next morning in my motel room. I'm like WTF!! I get up, go to the head. I see my car keys on the dresser. I come back out of the head and there's a note on the desk, (I still have it) along with a business card. The note said "Hey Doc, give me a call when you wake up, I'll pick you up for breakfast, Mike". I kind of remember this Mike from the night before, he was the Chapter president. So I call him up and asked him how in the f*ck did I get to my motel room. He said I passed out, they found my motel key, one of them drove me to the motel in my car while a taxi followed. Took me in and left, and I never spent a dime for a beer! So this Mike comes, picks me up, we go to his house, had one hell of a breakfast. He was a hog farmer and actually lived less than 2 miles from my grandpa and granpa's hog farm. The hog farm he owns was his dad's. His dad and my grandpa were friends. Now here's the strange part of this story, when he was a kid, he detassled corn, baled hay and cut hogs with my grandpa!!!! Before I left, he gave me one of their chapter's red MCL sweat shirts and a Marine Corp beer stine. Doc Hodson, when you mention "My Marines" it doesn't matter if we as Corpsman 8404's served with them or not. ALL Marines, past, present or future will always by "MY Marines". Living here in the Branson, Missouri area can at times be bittersweet especially during our week long Veteran's Day Celebration. I have over the years met so many young and old Marines alike. They always tell me stories about "their Doc". The bittersweet part of it is this, I hope that somewhere, sometime an old Marine will be telling a story about "His Doc" He may not remember my last name, but at least he remembers Doc. When I graduated Corp School, I didn't know anything about "A" schools. Some people went on to be Radiology techs, Respiratory techs, Physical therapy techs and the list goes on. After getting out of the Navy many pursued careers in the civilian sector and retired financially comfortable from their Navy training. I have a close friend that I graduated with from Hospital Corps School, he went in to radiology, retired from the Navy them became head of Radiology at a prestigious California hospital. He recently fully retired and purchased a small farm in New Hampshire. That may be great for him and I am sure he is very financially comfortable. But out of any Marine that he xrayed, how many of them remember him? Doc Hodson, If you are still alive and read this, hope you can come to Branson sometime. Look me up. Semper Fortis, Doc Cottrell

Sorry to hear, had no idea they had a stupid rule like that. I knew of a Corpsman with a latex allergy, if they let that in IMO they should definitely let you in... Just try to stay away from the peanut butter in the MRE's.

Doc G Now that I think about it though. My peanut allergy is what people would call severe. I never have gone into anaphylactic shock but i'm told its possible. I've eaten nuts on certain occasions, (rarely, 3 times max) and I just pop 2 Benadryl and I am fine. That's all I need to treat myself. Being a corpsman, i'm pretty sure i'd have that on me but you never know. The latex allergy probably isn't severe enough to where he could go into anaphylactic shock and that's why they accepted him.
@14arma
10 жыл бұрын
Michael Schuster As far as I know, the latex allergy was sever enough to keep that particular corpsman out of Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and instead they just got assigned to the barracks and helped check new corpsmen in and whatnot... It definitely had me scratching my head; how or why someone was trained as a corpsman but were unable to be used in almost all capacity's as one. As far as peanuts go however, I cant really think of any good argument as to why a Corpsman or Marine would have to be tolerant of it. Of course there's peanut butter in the MRE's and maybe the peanut m&m's, but I'm sure you would know what to avoid. I know there are a variety of jobs and units a corpsman can be potentially attached to, however if you end up with the infantry (or any combat arms job) I can safely say you will have your own medbag once you get to your unit (if not several). Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) will be very easy to get your hands on in the BAS if your madbag did not already come with it. In addition to the 50 mg pink pills of benadryl, we were also issued auto injectors of .3 mg of epinephrine (synthetic adrenaline) which could be used to treat anaphylaxis in emergency's among other things. If the Marines in your platoon are not already trained on how to use your medbag, I'm sure you could always show them how to stab you in the thigh with the auto injector if they ever find you blue faced with a bag of peanuts in your hand. Hope that gives you some more info, and good luck with whatever you end up doing!

Kinda. We aren't Marines, but I damn sure wasn't Navy either. No offense to either branch. We're Corpsman, a separate enlisted corps providing medical care in a variety of maritime theaters. But yeah, I guess it's the Navy that pays us. You could also say it's the Navy that pays the Marine Corps. Tell a Marine he's Navy ;)

Julissa Marquez Depends if you get deployable FMF orders. You can get assigned to a Medical Battalion, Air Wing, Logistics, etc. If you mean rolling out with infantry in a MarDiv then no. The rules are currently changing and they have 3 enlisted females in infantry MOS but so far no female corpsman.
@darkhair476

If you serious about it then start working out. There are a lot of military workouts online but you should focus on legs, back, core, endurance running, and quick recovery. Look at your age in the navy and marines fitness test (you have to do both) then shoot for the highest score. If your really serious follow the male standard. Always remember you have to preform your best on your worse day.

Corpsmen assigned to Marine Corps combat units are called FMF Corpsman. They do go into combat with a firearm. Depending on the type of unit, the seniority level of the individual, and also just personal preference, an FMF Corpsman can be assigned a variety of weapons. During my service, I carried the M-16, the 9mm, and even a shotgun at times. Most Corpsman will prefer the 9mm because it does not interfere with their primary mission of tending to wounded Marines. Per the Geneva Convention, a Corpsman may not engage the enemy unless they are defending the wounded or fired upon directly. When your ass is bleeding in no man's land, count on Doc to crawl up beside you. Doc Hodson
