Hot or Cold? - Moloco HO Scale Insulated Boxcar Unboxing and Product Review - Santa Fe ATSF!
Heads up Santa Fe fans!
Insulated boxcars are used to carry loads that are temperature sensitive but don’t necessarily require refrigeration. Cars can be pre-cooled and the insulation will maintain the temperature for days at a time. Insulated boxcars usually have plug doors for a tighter seal.
The insulation protects loads from extreme heat and cold during transit. Cars like this are often used for beer and wine, canned goods, many other types of food products, as well as plywood, paper, can stock, and products for the packing house and tobacco industries.
These versatile cars can also be used like any other boxcar, carrying most any type of load that will fit.
Between 1965 and 1967, Santa Fe’s Topeka Shops built over 1400 50’ insulated boxcars in classes Bx-94, Bx-97 and Bx-114. These cars had shock control cushioned under frames to help protect loads from rough coupling. Many were equipped with a number of interior features including side wall fillers and load dividers.
These cars could be found throughout North America and lasted into the BNSF era.
The model represents a Bx-94 class car that was repainted overall red in 1978. The paint schemes on the real cars varied depending on the era.
In this unboxing and product review Dan evaluates the model's packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well it operates and conforms to applicable standards.
