Another very informative video. Learning about the condition of the forest from the effects of the Ice Age, about native and non-native trees in your area is very interesting! We often think that everything belongs where it grew. But that is far from the case when you look at it more closely. The Caingorms Connect Project presented at the end was also worth hearing. 👌🏼 Thanks also for including one of my favorite sounds again. 😏 There are quite a few more, but popping popcorn is definitely one of them. ☺️ One day you'll have to invite us all to a TV evening in front of the wood stove window. 😉 I'm also infinitely glad that you found your dog again. 🙏🏼 I can understand your concern very well... The campsite you chose is wonderful again. I love those heather fields in the middle of a pine forest. Let's hope that the temperatures will finally turn into winter, so that you can fully enjoy the power of the wood stove. 🌬️❄️🔥 See you at the next one, Sam. 🙋🏼♀️

Thank you Nadine 😁 In the UK we are really bad for that. People just think what they see is as it should be but it couldn't be more wrong! I would love to have at least one really snowy camp this year 🤞

Great video and enjoyed the native vs non-native chat. I am just about to plant c/1,000 native species on my farm. We have been tying to raise as many as we can from local seed, but have brought some native seed over from Scotland (maple and scots pine etc.) to improve the gene pool. We have some established non-native on site in terms of sycamore which I am more than happy to keep and help establish further to help with biodiversity, but no truly non-native species such as sika spruce. We have ash, which is being hammered by ash dieback and hopefully we can find a strain of ash that is resistant to the fungus. I find you videos inspirational to plant more and more - thank you.

Sounds like you are undertaking some great work Ed. Sycamore is one of those classic honorary natives which I have a lot of time for. Like you say great for biodiversity and it's not aggressive like a Sitka would be. Most of the Ash round here has been impacted too and it's ramping up with extended mild weather. The stress caused by this summer past won't have helped either. I find comments like yours equally inspiring to keep talking about trees! Thanks again.

Great video as always mate 👍🏻 bet that backpack weighed a ton with the stove! I'd like to get a nice hot tent set up but some of the prices of all the gear is eye watering 😂 I'll happily spectate you for now!

Thanks Matt! Yeah it's definitely not cheap, especially these days. The tent wasn't too bad I got this one for £80 new but this stove wasn't cheap at all. Been saving up since last year. It's actually titanium so it really doesn't weigh much at all 😁👍

I’m some one who would love to see the introduction of the wild cat and maybe lynx into Scotland and maybe other areas of the uk Not sure how it would effect the ecosystem thou would definitely be interested in hearing the arguments for and against this Great videos thou glad the dog didn’t wander to far

I stuck around... Great video, always love the talk as those who do stick around for forest thoughts always learn something new. Got to ask, why is there not rabbits in that area you mentioned? How are you feeling after the Sweden trip and are you planning another adventure aboard? Love the channel, David.

Thanks so much David! Whenever I finish recording the ramble I always wonder if anyone is actually going to watch it 😂 so it's great to know that some do. Historically there wasn't a huge presence of rabbits in that area, could be due to the ground being mostly rock and peat. But they were hit hard by the myxomatosis and never came back. But on the other side of the Spey / A9 there are quite a few 🤷🏻 I'm getting back to normal now after a pretty crazy summer (by my standards) to both Norway and Sweden but I definitely miss it already. I really would like to make it to Finland next year but money is becoming increasingly scarce at the moment so we'll see what happens 😀 Thanks again!

Nice Video. Interesting discourse at the end of it. Oh and how to ruin a good camping trip - watch the Rings of Power.
