I’d like to see some more maintenance videos on other materials for figures. I’ve also heard a lot of recommendations for soaking cloaks due to dyes staining figures. That might be a process worth showing. Love your videos.

Thanks Desy for the reminder. I saw this promoted by LocoLu previously but forgot where I saw order info…picking up the grease today for my Ahsoka. That dio from Rebels looks fantastic…gives me good plan for use of all the extra 501st helmets I have from my dlx figs.

Hello there, since I can’t afford the silicone grease, I want to try some alternatives - is it safe to apply petroleum jelly or WD40 on these kind of figures?
@metamorphiccustoms

I havent tried those myself so can't be absolutely sure. Only one way to find out, but proceed with caution... sometimes it may be better to simply invest and the more expensive option. Thanks for watching!

@metamorphiccustoms

It depends on the type of body (material) used. I dont have the HT hulk, however, the grease shouldn't have an adverse affect as long as its a rubber/soft plastic material. Thanks for watching!

I remember you mentioning this and I'd heard about it from several others over the years. I've been using 303 and Mod Podge for years but have never tried this stuff. Glad I'm using it now. No sticky or greasy film left on the figure after application. I love it! Thanks for watching Lu!

Thanks for the great and educational video! How often do you think the figure would need this treatment? Once a year, more or less?
@metamorphiccustoms
7 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! It typically depends on your environment. Personlly I reapply every 6 months or so. (My display room is in a climate-controlled environment.) However, if your pieces are displayed in a non-controlled environment subject to drastic swings in temp and humidity, you may want to apply more often.

Hi! Do you recomend using a polish cloth for jewelry on an iron man hot toys figures? It would work on diecast or it would remove the paint? If you can give me an advice please
@metamorphiccustoms
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks for watching! No, I wouldn’t use that just in case. My fear is it would damage the paint. Instead I would use a soft microfiber towel, without any chemicals. That’s what I use to wipe down any finger prints on the diecast Iron Man.

Will this help in preventing cracks if you leave the arms bent though? Or are cracks inevitable with bent arms?
@metamorphiccustoms
2 жыл бұрын
It really all depends. Unlike 303 on pleather components, I haven’t used Shin Etsu for years. However, from what I hear from fellow collectors, it really helps especially if you plan on leaving the arms bent. Leaving them bent may or may not leave a crease in the silicone, but the grease will help that crease from drying out and cracking. (Makes sense since the grease was developed to protect silicone parts in vehicles that are under constant stress and movement.) Thanks for watching!

Thank You! 👍👍 I’ve been looking for this. Do you think it won’t damage the color on the Hellboy figure?
@metamorphiccustoms

Your very welcome, Luis! I suspect it won’t damage the color at all, but to be honest I haven’t used the product for extended periods so I can’t say I’m absolutely sure. That said, several people have been using this for years and I have yet to hear any horror stories which is a good sign.

Anyone know if there a difference between this and Danco Silicone grease that is readily available at hardware stores in .5oz tubes? I'd rather stop at a local store and grab some than have to order this stuff online.
@metamorphiccustoms
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I have never used Danco for this type of application so I cannot confirm. That said, it appears the manufacturer’s (Danco) intended application for their product is as a lubricant for plumbing components such as stems and valves. (In other words, it’s for solid plastic or metal components.) The Shin Etsu grease is specifically formulated for application on rubber and softer components. Does that mean you can’t use Danco? Honestly, I’m not sure… There’s only one way to find out, but it may be risky… Perhaps another viewer can chime in if they’ve tried it.

@@metamorphiccustoms Thank you! Ok I will try that. Oh and just for sharing. With TPE figures, after doing research, I found that to maintain the elasticity of the body (prevent it from cracking) you put non fragrance baby oil or 100% pure mineral oil and it works so far for me 😊 After applying the oil massage it for a few seconds then wipe the excess oil with oil absorbing kitchen paper. Then put baby powder. Oh but this method only works when the TPE bodies do not have any kind of body blush or paint. The oil will wipe it out.
@therealgeorgiadacosta9320

@@therealgeorgiadacosta9320 Awesome info, Thank you! Yes, thermo-plastics are another material used in toy production which can potentially begin deteriorating if not prodcued correctly, or when exposed to varying climates/ conditions. (Well, basically that applies to every type of plastic, really. :D) But you're right, TPE'S will typically require the application of baby powder. As far as oil goes, I have read opposing opinions on it. Some say you can use oil-based products on TPE, while others specifically say never to use oil-based products. Difficult to say which is right as I also assume the real answer also depends on the quality fo the TPE. Great discussion though!
