On the bench today is a 1/64 scale Hot Wheels ’66 Nova. This casting was designed by Phil Riehlman and debuted in the 2007 New Models. It was based on the production car of the same name. This one came out in Champagne metalflake with two black stripes from hood to trunk. It’s pretty light on exterior details, so I’ll give some attention to that during this makeover.
This is my entry into a special St. Patrick’s Day build-off hosted by Paul at Diecast Graveyard. If you’ve found my channel then you are surely familiar with his. If not, there’s a link in the description so that you can easily find it and get all subbed up. Paul has been a great help to me and he does absolutely excellent restoration and custom work, specialising in classic Redlines. Be sure to watch all the other builders’ entries too. The rules are simple: any 1/64 scale casting; all green; and an Irish theme. Stay tuned to see if I can tick all of those off my list.

The Nova was produced in five generations for the 1962 through 1979, by the Chevrolet division of General Motors and again from 1985 to 1988 by the NUMMI, a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. Nova was the top model in the Chevy II lineup through 1968. The Chevy II nameplate was dropped after 1968, with Nova becoming the nameplate for all of the 1969 through 1979 models. Built on the X-body platform, the Nova was replaced by the 1980 Chevrolet Citation introduced in the spring of 1979.
1966 Novas saw a significant restyling, based in part on the Super Nova concept car. In general, proportions were squared up but dimensions and features changed little. Engine options still included the basic inline four and six-cylinder engines and V8s of 283 cu in (4.64 L) and 327 cu in (5.36 L) the latter offering up to 350 hp.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

FYI: I don't collect, display or sell the cars, and they’re certainly not competition entries. All of the Maple Leaf Matchbox Makeovers finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
Note: Due to the use of paint stripping chemicals and power tools, this channel is not intended for viewing by children. Age 14+ is recommended.
