To release the lock - you push UPWARDS (I believe) on that green tab. You do NOT have to push or pull hard. If you still cannot get into your machine, its likely the catch broke off the handle - see this video to work out how to open it and replace the catch:- How to replace the door catch (won't open) - kzitem.info/news/bejne/mJ5rp4yboYR1o5w

We had the exact same machine, drum bearings went. Sealed bearings moulded in so had to change the drum via new one off Ebay. 1hr job.

Was that a sealed tub, or literally sealed bearings? Most machines now have a sealed tub so you cant even get to the drum. Biggest racket going in domestic appliances!
@IanScottJohnston

@@jaycee1980 Both. You can't split the drum and the bearings are sealed embedded in the plastic. Hence, you are able to buy OEM drums via Ebay.......thankfully!

@@IanScottJohnston My biggest regret was not replacing the drum (support arm "spider" fractured due to metal fatigue, 12 years old though!) on an old Whirlpool we used to have... everything was changeable and the tub was bolted together.. Thought it would be more economical to buy a newer machine - which died 2 years later "just out of warranty" and sure enough, sealed tub...

wrestled with many a washing machine over the years. they are fighters! amazing what you find in the filter sometimes. plastic toys, money etc. how does it get there??!?! lol

Mate, the number of call outs I get where people say the machine has failed and I have to go and show them how to unblock the filter you would not believe! I can only imagine how many machines are needlessly thrown away each year lol. I always make sure the impeller can spin freely. In my experience, hair clips are the biggest offender. The other thing to watch is that the outlet isn't blocked. I kid you not, I have had people in the flat underneath the machine texting me at 1am with water pissing through the ceiling. People pour fat down the sink, it blocks the waste for the washing machine, the machine can't drain and so all the water is pumped out and either floods out from underneath the machine or out of the door when they open it. Bane of my life. That and explaining how to re-pressurize a combi boiler or defrost the condenser pipe in the winter... Feck resi property management lol.

Put a thin screw driver in the spring and wire to pull them together

I have just come back off holiday and my machine decides not to start any cycle, when i press the start cycle it just beeps and does not start, so i am assuming it is the door lock mechanism , just makes a beeping noise, turns on and off fine and I did an 2 hour reset which made no difference
@GadgetUK164

Honestly no idea - it could be the door lock mechanism, worth trying to swap it I guess. It could also be a pump or switch elsewhere at fault, or a problem with the main PCB.

Hotpoint were always known for being a pain in the arse... I wont buy anything made by Indeshit (deliberate misspelling) any more. The bastards actually key the control boards so that you cannot swap them out yourself!!

Manufacturers and repair gurus make this stuff look easy by showing you how to do things on brand new machines. When you try it yourself, on a 10 year old item, the plastic is brittle, bolts are rusted and screw heads are rounded. A friend decided he wanted to replace the fuel filter on his car. 'What could go wrong?' he said. 'You just pull the old one off and push the new one on'. The fuel pipe snapped and we had to lower the petrol tank to fit a new pipe, so much for a simple push fit replacement.

Washing Machines - one the the hardest things to repair, as if you have to get at the innards you usually end up with your hand ripped to bits from sharp metal whilst trying to access some switch or pipe or wire in the worst possible place.......I always remember when I was a kid back in the 80's, my neighbour completely loosing it whilst trying to fix his washing machine - after hours of screaming and swearing, he eventually dragged it out into the garden and proceeded to smash it to bits with a large hammer!

I would have thought that the spring would be better positioned away from the bottom where the water drips down. I must admit that I wondered if this was purely an April 1st “fix”

That metal band is one of the hardest things to put back! 5 mins after this video, goes on AO and orders a new machine! 😂 Don’t let that mould remover get in the drum with your laundry as it contains bleach and will damage your clothes.
@GadgetUK164

LOL @ AO =D Regards the mould remover - yes, I didn't take any chances, I put a lime scale remover tablet in the drum and just did an empty fast wash to clean and descale it before use. That worked fine!

Really, these videos should be named, "How to break and then fix XYZ" :) The poor unsuspecting household electrical item's must live in fear of hearing you say that there's a video due. The poor items probably call in an electrical item priest first knowing that one of their flock is going to be murdered, :) Sadly I share your "can't leave well alone" enthusiasm and don't the bits of gear in my house know it. One day, all my gear will have the screws and bolts back in place. I term the idea, 'easy access' on my computers, but it's more like I've taken the screws off and put them all in my parts box without marking them :( Paul..

On my Hotpoint I took the top of which has 2 screws at the back undo them you can then slide top back by pushing on front edge then on mine I could see the door lock and put my hand down to it quite ease to take it off and replace

PS check the serial number. there was a recall on some of those Hoitpoint machines and the cause was the door lock mechanism causing fire, Not joking. We had one in a flat, the door broke twice, I saw the recall and binned it. Hotpoint kept sending letters so were clearly worried.

"Washing machines live longer with Gadget" or is it Calgon? 🙂 I've recently destroyed/torn down my old machine, never got around to doing anything with the footage. Drum was knackered so it was a bin job. Or should I say, leave it on the front and someone will take it job 😀
