Manderlys are most powerful and wealthy northern house. Among the most powerful ones in entire Westeros. Biggest northern heavy cavalry, holding all the trade in the 5th biggest city, and Robb allowed them to rebuild a navy (which they did by the time of ADwD). Ofc, they are much weaker than heavy hitters: Lannisters, Tyrells, Hightowers, etc...but overall a very powerful one. Show made them a minor house, but in truth, no other northern house can match them. Show didn't do them justice.
@matt_9112

The Lannisters are spent and without proper leadership (at the very latest after Kevan's death), the Hightower's got Euron to face and the Tyrell's are portrayed as "summer knights" and under growing pressure (King's Landing politics, Loras maybe being off the battlefield/dead, Garlan/the whole Reach standing against Euron, again). So the Manderly's odds (especially paired with the Umbers and other hardasses line the Flints and Norreys) are ev3n better I'd say. Just on paper ofc, barring plot twists.

Behind them both stands Symond, clinking coins. That one has bought and paid for several of my servants and two of my knights. One of his wife's handmaids has found her way into the bed of my own fool. If Stannis wonders that my letters say so little, it is because I dare not even trust my maester. Theomore is all head and no heart. You heard him in my hall. Jon and Sansa have a higher likelihood of being chosen over rickon. The former because he will have a strong backing and latter because they can try and marry into the stark succession. It honestly depends on the Maderly's tho because it's obv Wyman wants to be regent potentially marry someone to rickon, but if Jon has an able body and mind post resurrection then he's the one that will actually be able to rally the north and the one men will follow. Another interesting thing to note regarding the 'New North' faction. When discussing Ramsey Snow being legitimised as Bolton by Tommon's Council, Robett Glover says: "He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says." What is concerning here is that Robb has legitimised Jon Snow by making him his heir. But one can't help but notice that Robett Glover and Wyman Manderly have certainly had their fill of bastards and prefer Rickon. Robb Stark was a boy king. Brilliant writing by George. I didn't notice it until my second or third re-read. "He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says," Is a statement that fits *both* Tommen Lannister legitimising Ramsey Snow AND Robb Stark legitimising Jon Snow. This is easy to miss since Ramsey, Tommen, and Rickon are the focus of conversation. Northern Civil War, when we need unity, is unfortunate, but the Vale Knight's arrival with Sansa may be the glue they need to refocus everyone on unity. Great video! 👏🏾

"He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says." I don't think it's set in stone. Maybe it's true that they just don't like any bastard, or maybe they just don't like Ramsey and southern kings so they're looking for an excuse to dismiss him. (It's a sadly all too common attitude we see all over, just look at some of the 'discussions' in youtube comment threads. People will reach for any excuse, including inventing one, to dismiss someone/something they don't like) Maybe they'll have a different attitude when it's someone they like, Robb, legitimising the (believed) son of someone else they like, Ned, in order for an independent North to still have a Stark king.

Secondly and I think more importantly, it is shown that the North’s resources are horribly drained by ADWD and I don’t think they could survive on their own without the other kingdoms.
@theadversary

Yeah I've never understood that mindset either. Stannis is quite literally the one spearheading the liberation of the north out in the open while the conspiracy itself is occurring in the shadows. The northerners would be no better than the Boltons if they just cast aside the man who promised revenge for the Starks. When Stannis's downfall comes it will be because of Stannis and as time has gone on after multiple reread, theory-craft and analysis from so many different sources it's clear that will occur long after the Boltons are extinct house and the Starks are restored to Winterfell, something Stannis will be instrumental in.

Most likely Stannis and the Manderly plot succeed, with the Boltons pushed out of Winterfell, but not crushed. I have had two good friends pass away unexpectedly while waiting with baited breath for Winds to be finished. If George doesn't want to finish the story that's his choice and it's definitely disappointing. The thing that angers me is that it's become clear that George has no intention of finishing and has been lying about it for years. When he said that Winds is three quarters finished it really angered me. He was basically thumbing his nose to all the people with a deep and abiding love for ASoIaF. It's also particularly irritating when George acts all butt hurt when loyal fans express disappointment that the books will never be finished.

But Holster Tully, being a good Sevenist, would denounce the pagan tradition and force the marriage of his oldest daughter to the head of house Stark (that is why the Blackfish abandoned his brother at the wedding.) And the Great Bitch herself always complained that Jon seemed to develop faster the Rob (likely because he's a few weeks to months older). Now I don't know the North's view on polygamy, so Cayt's children might be viable as heirs but Jon would still then be the primary heir. As to why the Lords of North appointed Rob King; revenge, Jon took the Black, and the need to keep a coherent front. Also if the North isn't cool with polygamy, then Jon is the only Stark and Cayt's spawn are Snows

Yes, Jaime, Cersei, Baelish, the Boltons, and some others know she is Jeyne Poole. But common perception among those who live in the north is that she’s Arya. All they know is Roose Bolton’s bastard is marrying Eddard’s little girl. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, and wouldn’t call her out as a fraud. For example, Lady Dustin believes “Arya’s” crying lowers the morale of the northern houses who served the Starks.

I don't believe Jon is dead. The scene depicting the attack on Jon is purposely ambiguous. It gives justification for both survival and death, and I think the story would be better if a still-living Jon gets more conscious about his skin-changing abilities and started using them to help in the fight against the Others. He should not get out of his night's watch oath by dying and resurrecting. He should be lord commander of the night's watch and break tradition when necessary to ensure the survival of the living in Westeros. In the metaphorical sense, he has died multiple times already. He killed the boy when he accepted to be Jeor's steward. He killed the boy when he didn't desert. He killed the boy when he joined the wildlings. He killed the boy when he left the wildlings to rejoin the night's watch. I think this scene will be an eye-opener for him, and be another reason to grow up. After the threat of the others has been dealt with, I think that the night's watch might be dissolved, leaving the remaining members free to go wherever they want. I think Jon could be a great master at arms, a military commander and a great councillor to the starks for the rest of his life. I think it is likely that Rickon will be a temperamental king in the North who overrules some of his council's decisions, but overall, still be relatively easy to manipulate as he is too young and too emotional to think things through. He would be significantly kinder and less evil than King Joffrey, but also significantly wilder and more unpredictable than King Tommen. He would be more like a young Uncle Brandon and Aunt Lyanna than a young Ned. I hope that Sansa will be part of his council, and think that she would be the best person to influence Rickon to do the right thing when the right thing is about what has to be done for the long term, but doesn't lead to instant gratification.

I agree, one hint is that in the TV show one of.the scripts GRRM wrote had Bran having several visions. One of them depicted Robb's death and as he laid dying his face changed into Grey Winds. Implying that he warged into his wolf, the last thing he saw as he died his second death being Arya.

I like how House Manderly is a Southern hybrid style of what a Northern house would be. They have Southern traditions and culture but ultimately have the heart and pride of a Northerner. Wyman being outwardly different from the other lords of the north as he's rich, fat, believes in the seven, has knights and just generally polar to his peers but that's not entirely true. His house just runs differently but shares the same loyal pride in the Starks and they are just as brutal as the other houses as they butchered the Freys as they remembered the crimes of Bolton and Frey traitors.
