Super helpful video I just got typed yesterday by HOC as a blue autumn after years of assuming I'm a winter, and it makes SO much sense now why I've always gravitated to autumn tones in makeup and more recently have been loving gold jewelry, but I always gravitated toward rich jewel tones in clothes, which tend to be on the cooler side. I am so excited to level up my closet now that I know exactly which vibrant warm shades to look for to best match my features.

Thanks for this! Learned a lot. I'm a true autumn (self diagnosed/ draped). The site "colorwise me" typed me as either DW or DA (depends on pics) because I have dark hair, eyes & medium skin (like J Lo). I'm a POC and I think online sites/ apps type POCs as default DW or DA. I watched lots of color analysis vids & draping before I finally draped myself. I'm warm & muted, contrast is medium, so I'm pretty sure that I'm a True Autumn. Also, the TA colors look good on me, as do the "leaf autumn" that you mentioned. I also learned abt the 3 types of reds from your other vid. I look forward to more autumn content from you. Btw, for info vids like this, I suggest to put timestamps in the description area or a pinned comment. Cheers!

In the 80s I got an analysis from Beauty for All Seasons and was typed as Contrasting (pale with darker hair and colored eyes) Autumn Panache (brown hair with gold or red highlights, peachy-pink or golden beige skin, blue green, green-grey eyes). That sounds like a blue Autumn in the HOC system. I've softened over the years, so I'm thinking I'm a Soft Autumn now. I have a high pink overtone on the surface of my skin (sun damage/old age) which always throws me off thinking I have a cool tone now. Not enough discussion of how the Overtone of the skin affects analysis.

I was wondering what are the 16 sub seasons, and now I understand the 4 sub seasons of autumn. Thank you for explaining. My HOC professional didn’t explain them to me or put me into one. I do like to see how the different colors,hues etc. work together. Muted Autumn is what I least gravitate towards and there's been a lot of it in the last 20 years,but all the seasons are something I can appreciate being put together well and love the variety of outfit assembly combinations, as opposed to current fashion. There was one video I can't - remember which channel, mentioned how to put a brown outfit together - can't recall the exact word she used - something along the lines of variegated shades rather than solid brown . I've never liked brown on anyone except one friend who was actually blue eyed, blonde, and looked great in blue as well. Much as brown eyed people and muted skin tones loved brown and muted greens it just added a lifeless look and didn't bring any richness or compliment their coloring - I preferred purple or red on brunettes. It was positively interesting to see how the way the outfit was put together did a lot to the look so they don't look like mud head to toe. I don't understand people getting as upset with color analysis as they give more suggestions and aren't as limiting as trends.
@vickilouise7764

Such an interesting comment, thank you! Agree there's been a lot of muted autumn colours out there recently, as it's very soft I see how it leans itself to current trends of quiet luxury and richness. I suppose some people go into their session with a season they'd like to be assigned as and when they're given something it can be a let down. But once you start playing with your new colours and finding pairings that work together you can see how freeing it is :)

I agree…there are many trends that only people in certain seasons and subtypes look good in, or certain body types. There are also trends which flatter no one. Trends are designed to be a passing thing, like planned obsolescence, so you will need to buy something else. The only time I really love color trends is when one of my power colors comes in style, as has happened in recent years with coral, light olive, and recently, dreamsicle orange. I’m a Light Spring.

I think that at least for some soft autumns, the softness factor is a lot more important than lightness. They can do colors that are a bit darker as well, as long as they are on the muted side. Edit: I am realizing that this system is a bit different from the one I know. Maybe this version of soft autumn does prioritize both soft and light.

I think with HoC the lighter, less saturated colours are suggested but I agree that softness rather than lightness is sometimes more important, especially for some of the autumn blues.

I seem to be a weird autumn?! My colouring would put me as a blue autumn or even a winter - light skin, dark ash brown hair, grey-blue eyes (with a hazel ring) and olive skin that isn't super warm or cool and gets pink flush AND a tan. But what seems to bring my face, skin and eyes to life are saturated olive green, saturated mustard, saturated rust orange, or slightly muted rust red accented with a soft light beige like Polytec Royal Oyster, and my best nail colour is dark brown-red. I don't look good in forest green or royal purple like a blue autumn to winter would. But I can wear navy, black, and white, black or navy look especially good contrasted with either white or warm yellow.

It's great that you've figured out what looks best on you, perhaps nailing down a (sub)season isn't that important then seeing as you already know your best colours :) it seems that you do overlap into both autumn and winter, lucky you that you can wear some colours from each season!

Im dark autumn but my best colours are forest green , dark/medium olive , deep blood red , oxblood/maroon, the darkest chocolate brown and a muted rust. I wouldnt say blue is my colour, i cant imagine blue being the best colour for all dark autumns. Although,I think the marine navy could look good too it wouldn't be personally my best colour. I think dark autumn is warm neutral and there is a spectrum of that. Some DAs are closer to neutral and some closer to warm. I learn closer to the warm side . Turquoise , teal , aubergine , plum and burgundy all look fairly good when I have a tan but when I'm pale they are no good . When I'm pale these colours just bring out the blue/Grey in my skin 🤦♀️ I didn't know burgundy had so much blue in it untill I put it against my pale olive skin and then compared the burgundy top to the colour of my deep red top .
@vickilouise7764

Those colours are beautiful on dark autumns! Marine navy would look lovely too but a hard colour to find as it's much lighter and warmer than a typical navy. Yes I agree about the spectrum, there will be DAs that are warmer than others. Thanks for watching :)

those are my best colors too, plus deep orange and tomato red, although I also find that the purples and blues can work quite well if they are very dark and a little bit muddy, and even better if they are part of a small, intricate pattern that is broken up by off-white or golden brown. That being said, I bet two people could be the same season and not have quite the same colors working for them.
