I live in a smallish regional town in south eastern Australia and we only had 2 tv channels until the late 80's and neither of them carried any wrestling. Matter of fact none of the eventual 4 channels carried any wrestling until 1992 and even that only lasted a few months. So yeah, I never got to see any wrestling in the 80's, as it happened. That said, wrestling in the 80's never felt alien to me, because when I saw it after the fact I knew that if I had been lucky enough to have had a tv channel that had carried it, I would have definitely watched it and loved it. Wrestling from the 70's? That's different because while I'm still very much enjoying it, it's also kinda weird thinking that I was about 2 days short of being 2 months old as this aired. So even if this particular show had been available on my local TV, I'd have been more interested in my feeding/crying/sleeping at the time, lol.

The Sam Houston Coliseum held 9,000. The Summit opened in 1975 and held 16,000. It was only natural that Boesch would want to promote bigger shows on occasion. The first show at the Summit was in May 1977, headlined by Nick Bockwinkel vs. Terry Funk. The upcoming show mentioned here was the fourth show at the Summit and the second in a row headlined by Race vs. Andre. Andre was never pushed as a title contender for obvious reasons but Boesch had the ability to make it work here.

Tons of ignorant comments here. Let's start with first things first. Houston Wrestling was NOT a territory. It was a local promotion. Do you understand the difference between the two?
@ericshupack8056
2 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Houston wrestling was indeed a territory. It was just unique in that it was a joint venture between Mid South and Paul Boash. Paul used Mid South talent and other talents from around the world.
@MisterBeauJanGels
2 жыл бұрын
@@ericshupack8056 It would help your argument more if you learned to spell his name correctly. The focal point of a territory is a booking office. Houston had influence on the booking of Texas towns under Morris Sigel. That influence waned due to two concurrent events, Boesch taking over from Sigel and Fritz Von Erich's rise within the NWA power structure. Boesch's weekly financials have widely circulated over the web in recent years. To recap, at the time of this video, Houston ran every Friday (Dallas shows, well known under the World Class era for being held every Friday, were then held every Sunday). The bulk of Boesch's weekly cards consisted of Dallas-based talent. Boesch paid booking fees to Dallas. At some point, he had a falling out with Fritz and/or the NWA in general and switched to obtaining most of his talent through Joe Blanchard and using Nick Bockwinkel as his world champion. The Mid-South partnership came about because Boesch's relationship with Buck Robley fell apart, which jeopardized his ability to use San Antonio talent, just like what happened with Fritz and Dallas talent several years before. Here's the point of all this. If Boesch was promoting shows in places like Beaumont and Corpus Christi and coordinating a circuit in conjunction with his Houston shows, it could be argued that Houston was a territory. There's no evidence of that. Instead, he was a local promoter and Houston was a stop on the territorial circuits of Dallas or San Antonio or Mid-South. When the Dallas boys went to Lubbock, they were still Dallas talent but there was a local promoter, Nick Roberts (Baby Doll's father). I understand that people have bought into a certain definition of "territory" and "promotion" and fail to realize the difference between a booking office and a local promotion.
