Don’t think that longevity relies on particular food but on microbiom and unprocessed food without additives. It seems to me that sun (vitamine D), physical work and relaxed socializing makes the miracle. Interesting video!

Also, are those centurions (err I mean centenarian lol 🤣) vaccinated? Being so rural, and adults before vaccines became mainstream, have they ever been vaccinated?
@bo-dine7971

The thing about vitamin D is not quite right, not only does our body develop enough and keeps a balance from very little exposure to sunlight (and sunlight is not required for making vit-D btw), doing things like sunbathing, especially for a white individual, ages them and develops magnitudes more vit-D than needed, and that is not a good thing, not to mention risk of some serious illness'. Britain has a strong aging population and they have extremely low exposure to sunlight. HOWEVER, and this is very important for current generations, being out in the sun triggers other natural processes in the body that are vital for our vision, amongst other things. A study in some asian country revealed kids not playing outdoors had twice higher rates of sort-sightedness than kids who were overloaded with homework and stayed home. To make a long story short, the eye physically elongates because the natural process in the brain, which is triggered by exposure to sunlight, is disturbed. These two groups of children had basically the same amount of work at school, yet because one was simply went outside the eye health was twice better on average. So, the education board developed a system where they would get kids outdoors during the schoolday. This kind of thing exists in other animals, it's basically a day/night cycle, rather than vitamin-D or UV-ray-exposure thing. Many lizzards have a 3rd eye on top of their head, ususally under some skin so not too noticeable and the only purpose of this 3rd (primitive) eye is to do the same thing and keep the body balanced with day/night. So to summarize, everyone should have exposure to sunlight for a little while everyday, but it is mostly to keep the body cycle right and not to make buttloads of vitamin-D or be bombarded wih UV rays. So your eyes seeing the sun is mostly what's good for you. I agree with you on everything else though!

Processed sugar.
@bo-dine7971
2 жыл бұрын
They consume sugar, but not in purified form and high concentration. An apple is good for you, but a sweet with identical amount of sugar is not, since it has no other substances in it that are good for you, not to mention you'll be much mroe inclined to eat a whole bag of sweets instead of munching on 12 apples in one go. Also, and this is critical, with any substance that may be toxic / unhealthy, it is how often you consume it rather than the amount at a time that counts. In most of the world now, we consume very sugary substances all the time, throughout each day, it's added to basically everything, but with natural living it's not like that. This even extends to stuff like opium, natural opium has substances in it that heal the body from the sideffects of morphine in it + substances that stop you from overusing it, but medicine instead went the purified and synthetic route and we can see what impact that had.. Plants have a balance in their chemistry.

Lining the yard with peach trees gave shade to the morning doves and to be out of the Texas heat during the summer months was like being in an oasis . She tended the trees which always produced a tasty fruity dish she enjoyed making and sharing with her neighbors .I think of those days as a boy , cutting peaches for her to freeze , bushels to keep fro future peach cobblers , the smell of that dish brings me right back to that back porch and a love of her spirit .

Honestly this feels so genuine! Not like these "documentaries" suggesting that people in these places are 99% plant based and that is the factor why they live up to 100 yo. It is more about their overall lifestyle, being active physically and mentally every day, being grateful, spending time with their family and friends, eating animals and animal products, fruits, veggies etc. from their own farms, simply foods which do not come from super-markets and are not sprayed with a ton of non-sense and also are not gmo. A big thank you for your effort to show these places, I cried in every single video of this serie and it made me very emotional. Simply beautiful and very inspiring!!!!! THANK YOU. 💗

Just to clarify, tortillas are tortillas, not "tortilla bread". We also don't use the term baking for them, but cooking. So tortilla bread and tortilla bakery aren't correct terms. The term "baking" works for bread products, but tortillas are not bread and shouldn't be placed in the same category. Also what you said about supermarket tortillas is true, we call them fake tortillas, especially the ones found in the US, it's GMO corn paper. There's a lot of types of maíz in Mexico, Central and South America and every country makes their own versions, even hybrids like nopal tortillas and chile tortillas.

Its good to see the Ticos enjoying corn tortillas, yes every region has its own heirloom corn, I also might add Nicholas that the 'nixtamalization' of the corn, cooking with lime(calcium)or ashes(this I knew not)makes the corn more easily digested by our digestive system. And the Vino de Coyol, it looks similar to Pulque but I bet its not sour in taste and slimy. Pulque is the honey water that collects in a cut open Maguey(Century plant, cousin to the blue agave), when the honey water is first collected by an empty gourd, through which the pulquero "sucks" it up through one end of a gourd, than exhales to release the honey water, and then by noon when the day is warmer the honey water turns into a slimy, alcoholic drink, Octli in Náhuatl.Thanks for sharing Nicholas, 👍and greetings 👋from Querétaro.🤠

My uncle (RIP) used to collect about 100 L of this wine per day (we call it Palm wine) from his dedicated 5-acre Raffia palm farm back in West Africa. I still have fond memories 😊😊😊😊 of visiting with him and having 8 L to drink per day. I wonder why this drink is not commercialized.

My family both from my mother and father side come from large farm families! And is true people that carry this life styles growing and living on a farm makes them live longer. My aunts are over 70 yrs and still alive and healthy. I hope to live a bit of more years. The key here is to be active and eat more veggies and fruits.

Excellent observation! In my family, the material grandma & her sisters grew up on a farm, and actually did the riding and roping, everything a male cowhand would do. The oldest daughter, who lived on the farm the longest, lived the longest to 102. The youngest, who spent the least amount of time on the farm, died the earliest at 82, and all of her children who grew up in the city, died comparatively young. The oldest died at 58, & the other 3 died ~72 ish. Their children are dropping like flies with a huge percentage dying before 60.

He summed it up when he said to always be satisfied with what you have, and not be continually striving for more. The Western European mindset of growth, growth, growth has permeated everyday life across the world. All this does is create more stress and anxiety.

This one was very beautiful. I would hope that you leave their drink with them and not take it with you to New York. The very last thing we'd want to see is a long parade of intruders seeking how they might exploit them any further! Please, leave them to their peace and do not take that away from them... The real secret to their longevity is that they have a rather healthy love for one another. Something we rarely ever see anymore...

Also, this (generally outstanding) video misses an important point about the ashes and corn: this process is called nixtamalization, and it works with lye as well. It makes B vitamins and protein much more available than they would otherwise be in raw or cooked corn. Europeans who relied on corn brought back from the Americas but without this key processing step suffered horrendous ailments...

I was wondering what it is about this process that makes it better. This is a dry corn that's soaked in water then cooked with water and the ashes? When he first showed the corn my first thought was "oh, it's corn soaked in lye" which to me is disgusting and don't see how there can be anything beneficial from it.

"Poor farmers".... No. They are healthy, contented ,happy and blissful people who have ample to eat and who esteem physical socialization and everyday get-togethers.They are living off their land, growing most of their food .That have built their homes and outhouses. Didn't hear of bills and rents. These are rich people, physically and emotionally. People who, to a large extent, have discovered the meaning of life.
