Exactly why i enjoy my day to day market decisions being guided by a portfolio-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/ analysis they have, it's near impossible to not outperform, been using a portfolio-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over 400k.

Some debt is good. The one time the US paid off its national debt, it pushed the US into a decade-long recession. The trick is that most of the US debt is owned not by foreign governments but by the US itself. However, a worrisome trend has started, as tons of investment groups have started buying up as much US debt as possible. A weak dollar helps with US exports while a strong dollar helps with US imports. When people talk about China becoming the reserve currency of the world I laugh as China purposely keeps its value low to help with exports and their currency isn't based on reality simply what their government believes it should be worth.

The strength of the US was its ability to do what no other country could. Print infinite money and let other countries buy up the debt thanks to it being backed by oil. @@AQuietNight That's true, but what makes the US so different is the trade deficit. We have a trade deficit of ~$73 billion, so the fact that we import WAY more than export, means that having a weaker currency hurts us more than it hurts other countries. This is why countries like China will intentionally weaken their currency since they are a heavy export economy. So in that case it benefits them because it means there will be a much higher demand for their goods.
@ZETA14.88

@@PositionTheory if you want less trade deficit then you need to actually sell products and service the world actually want to buy China for example demand high tech products and agriculture, sell those to them and boom problem solved.
@PositionTheory

@@ZETA14.88 Well the US is still the #2 exporter of goods and the #1 exporter of services in the world, so I'm not totally sure what you mean by that. The main reason for the large deficit is that the middle and upper classes in the US are very large and very wealthy. Societies with this distribution will typically have large trade deficits because the people have plenty of money to spend on foreign goods. A trade deficit is also not a "problem" if you have a fairly strong currency. It is actually a benefit. The problem comes if you have a trade deficit AND a weak currency, because that will contribute to inflation.

1:17 Trump isn’t wrong in this regard, because not only does a stronger dollar make exports more expensive for overseas investors, but it makes imports less affordable for the United States, which is why China has been artificially lowering its Yuan, to boost exports and to outcompete the Dollar

Here in Switzerland we had to cope with a strong Swiss Franc since 2015 when it started floating again against the € (it was fixed at 1 CHF = 1,2 € before), and all the crisis since then push investors towards a refuge currency which the Swiss Franc is. It has had an impact in the first years on exports and companies had to adapt their prices and cost structures. It depends on your trade balance, for importing it's great, for exports less and you then need to find new ways to stay competitive and maintain prices. For years the € and the $ have been both weaker against the CHF, we seem to be thriving with a strong CHF, so it might not be as bad as it sounds.

Yea, having a strong Dollar is such a bad thing. Get used to it compared to all the other fiats. Over time it's a double edged sword and until there is a replacement for it, it's just going to remain that way. Spreading the value of what you have across many different assets and not just sitting in Dollars, that is the lessons anyone should take from this.

Why do we need to even argue about this? Do you want to be Venezuela where the peso is worthless and rationing is a daily chore? So what if the dollar is worth 200 yen, or 15 yuan, or 2 euros. A strong dollar means most of the money we borrow comes back to our shore. It’s like the reverse of having a credit card that pays you back for buying things.

The video covers both upsides and downsides of the currency strength, I don't see it as biased. Weak currency stimulate export, that's true, that's why China kept their currency weak, just to export more. But weak currency also causes inflation, which is also true. So no propaganda here, not more than usual at least.

USA owes $35 Trillions in debts. USA have millions of homeless. The interest payments on the maturing and new debts will strain the US budget. The USA would face increasing pressure in paying the debts and the interest. The Chinese are not interested in buying more T bills. All these can only mean one thing…..the USD would have to go lower to get the Americans to save more and buy less things from overseas. The USA need a recession to buy less. I sold out all my USD and US assets 2 years ago. I don’t see how the good times can continue. US companies operating in China will see lower business in China ie No or low growth. Once you strip out the chinese business, most US a companies will see little or no growth in revenues and profits. The PE ratio is TOO HIGH. Sell the shares.
