Is this a new age method to cleaning out the dump truck bed with a hammer? Grew up hauling sand and gravel for my Dad in the 60's and 70's. We were required to climb up in the bed with a shovel to got all the extra material out by hand. Was easier on the ears as well as the life expectancy of the welds on the dump bed. It also gave us some exercise after 8-12 hours of driving in slow moving traffic. When the temps dropped below freezing we also coated the inside of the dump bed with a light coating of used engine oil to help the material slide out easier. Doing these things was just a part of the daily maintenance like checking engine oil, tire pressure and making sure our running lights were functioning on the truck. I can see the benefits of being able to haul more material but I would worry about too many moving parts long term. Thanks for showing how a transfer truck works. I sure don't miss working in the cold anymore. We were told it built character. If anything it taught me to be methodical about how I worked on other challenges I faced later in life. Appreciate the effort you took in videoing and editing. Be safe out there on the job.

I understand how they work, my question is why? Why not a pup trailer or a quad trailer? Where I live you will never see a transfer box system but you will see very many different set ups none of which involve unhooking the trailer to dump its load.

Many of the sites out here are very remote and also don’t have room for a truck and pup and/or other trailers. The advantage of this is you have haul essentially the same (actually a little more than a truck and pup) and get into places only an end dump can access. These are more common on this side of the country than the central or east coast.

Hello. We have one gerbox conected to the lorrys hydralic system. When the truck back in to the trailer one hydralic gearbox connect to the chain that moowe the casset in to the lorry and lock it to the lorry & back the truck to the dumpning place & back to the trailer & put the casset on the trailer without go out to connect the casset. Look at some youtube films. Before it took maby 20min but now much faster. I see this in 1990 here in Sweden.
