Don’t pick anything to get done. Resolutions are not about getting anything done. They are about doing. Pick what you want to be DOING a year from now and start DOING it. The product doesn’t matter, it is the process and making your process what you want it to be. Stop “donning” and start doing.

the thing to remember is the reason a year can change your life is because there’s so much time in a single year. you don’t have to overcrowd every day, you can take days off and you can skip up or fall backwards but it doesn’t matter because a year is plenty of time. don’t let yourself feel like you “aren’t where you need to be” because you’ll get there sooner than you think.

I spent all of 2023 battling an uphill depression, cutting my ties with my 4 stringed friend, watching windows close, but grinding out my drawing skills. I managed to regain my middle school abilities where I can draw what I watch all while slowly understanding what I draw. Never did I think I would achieve my current level. I thought I burnt it all away back when I put down the pencil for music. Here I am now turning old dreams into new dream and turning new dreams into old dreams if that makes sense. 2024 will be the year I regain my highschool drawing abilities where I was finally able to freestyle what popped into my head onto paper. I'm 30 now. I'm not happy, but I'm not sad.

@@juanrivera9328 My mom got me this book and this introduction really opened my eyes and helped me approach drawing from a different angle that just made more sense to me. "Every time we try to register or record something that excites our interest, we increase our knowledge of the visible world. In attempting to understand more fully the earth we inhabit, we try to recreate it in our own terms. For artists, this means not only developing a skill in handling materials, but also acquiring an avid curiosity about the subjects we choose to draw or paint. The emphasis throughout this book is on perception rather than technique. I believe that by concentrating on precision in terms of observation an artist arrives at good technique naturally." It made sense to me because when I tried drawing Coco Melon riding Dumbo for an ex-coworker's daughter I kept winding up drawing generic baby, BUT when I drew Dumbo. I DREW Dumbo. I loved Dumbo when I was little and he was a character I understood very well. Coco Melon on the other hand is funny haha meme song and I'm like 30 with no kids so I never really saw it in my mid 20's while my friends with kids did. Thus I wound up drawing a generic baby instead of the actual character. Also, warm up before practicing. Your hands have muscles ya know. I like to do little scribbles and the circles. Sometimes lines and lines and lines and eventually little curvy lines so I can loosen up my hand. Then I do rough sketches before I tackle an actual project. Sometimes my actual projects wind up as unfinished rough sketches and THAT'S OKAY. I gained some XP out of it and when I tackle my next project I'll be that much closer to leveling up again. Understand what you know, but if you can't understand what you know then you won't gain it's knowledge.

A huge problem with implementing your goals (/new years resolutions) is that one only pays attention to the goal, but not the way to get there. If you want to reach something, you have to think about what steps will get you there first. (so: "I want to get to 10k followers" is great and all, but there's no real action in it- you also can't influence how many people follow you etc. A better goal is, as Kelsey said/ did: "I will post 1 piece of content each week for the year". The more precice you get in planning your steps, the easier it is to implement.)

Picking a single goal increases your chance of sticking to it a lot, but if you can't choose just one, what worked for me before was dividing the year into sections. For example, in 2019 two of my goals were working out consistently and eating healthier. The first three months of the year, I pretty much had a single goal, just working out consistently. Just show up to the gym even if I don't have time and/or energy for a hardcore workout. Sometimes I'd just go and do some light cardio and call it a day. After three months, it pretty much stopped being a challenge and became a part of my daily routine. Then I started eating healthier, I just focused on that for a few months. It's kind of "the best of both worlds", you can tackle a few goals instead of just one, but you'll only have the pressure of a single goal on you at a given time. And knowing you stuck to your first goal motivates you even more for the second one. You know you just did it, so you can do it again.

Art museums only display a portion of their collection at any given time. The building also has climate controlled, compact storage for works that are not on view. Works on paper especially need to come off view periodically to limit light exposure. That and offices are what’s in the rest of the building 😉

Good video / advice. I especially liked and live by NOT following that "new year, new me" bs people talk about. Four years ago I had to lose 64 lbs. I went about it by changing very small parts of my diet and routine. Each step was so small that I only noticed it for the first couple of weeks while it was front and center in my life. Afterwards, life was just another day. Two months of education, research, or planning, and four months of actual dieting, and I hit my goal. It's such a part of my daily routine that something major has to happen to change the way I eat. ANYHOO... don't reinvent your whole life if you don't need to. Add or subtract one or two small things until they are just a normal part of your day. Many of the supporting activities will naturally follow.

Don't apologise for stuff you haven't completed yet - as long as you're still working towards it then you're still doing the work and *that's* exactly what you promised: to keep working. I can't speak for the rest of your viewers but I know I'll be sticking around to see your journey blossom further ☺️ For me it's really hard to keep goals and to-dos in check after school when you essentially become the teacher who's marking your own assignments. It's easy to be hard on yourself and feel bad for "not doing enough" but the simple fact that you're here, still doing stuff you said you wanted to do, is more than enough. I'm starting now but especially in 2024, I'm going to be more forgiving of myself but also hold myself more accountable to complete things I want to and, even more importantly, *start* things I want to complete over time. I've been dealing with trauma over the past couple of years so I'm trying not to be too hard on myself with being "productive" but I know it won't take too long to get where I want to be. As you said, Kelsey; it just takes a lot of work and building healthy habits over time. Being human is frustrating... But worth it in the end.

I really love your videos! You provide some insightful tips to improve as an artist. Habits make our lifestyles and guide us in trajectory of our goals or away from them. One of the things you mentioned about content creation and becoming a full time artist stood out to me. I have been thinking about the concept of being a “fulltime artist” and what I have been realizing is that its not necessarily becoming a fulltime artist people want to be, but specifically the income to replace any job that would take up time to create and enjoy an artistic lifestyle. Because if I replace a job with another one that takes my time away from art, then its just a cycle. I’ve seen artists working traditional office jobs or cafe jobs go into content creation to then burn out because it perpetuated the same cycle. Or they focus on sales more than the enjoyment of creating art, which is what they wanted in the first place. We are already “full time artists”, its an identity. The income however is a tool to support our artistic lifestyle and goals, along with other resources. Can’t wait for your next videos for 2024!

I've decided to work within the same "veins" as to what I'm already working on/towards, because I can't do new years resolutions. I realized that it fills me with anxiety, self hatred and dread. I still make a list, BUT, it's all things I'd like to keep working on or expand on, with a few new things added in. Such as, I want to keep going with mobility and staying active, but to add in something new, I want to learn a new dance form. So it's in line with my recovery from being bedridden for 4 years due to a genetic disorder, and I've spent the last year slowly building up my strength, mobility and activity. I love to dance, so learning a new form would still be in the active "vein" but it's also new. I hope that all made sense. 😅😂 But I'm also trying to find steady income as well, so..yeah. We'll see how it goes, but another thing is being more positive with the self talk, so I'm (telling myself) confident I will find a way to make steady income and still be happy and have time to do things I want to accomplish or things to expand on! ❤ Good job on your hard work!!! 👏🏼

It's just human, that's the beauty of it, I feel like the world is getting to complicated, we expect too much, from us, from everyone and everything, we feel overwhelmed every second we lay on the bed, every second we are not being as glorious as we should be in our head. We're humans, we're simple at times, we're wrong other times, you seem to me a beautiful example of what a human can and should be, thanks.

Hello, thank you for your work. I find your images very beautiful. Is it possible to know the camera that helps you film? I also wish you a very good continuation and many beautiful things. Maud

My 2025 self, I hope you can come back to it and see how much has changed, I want you to see I've made it and I've reached my goal. I want you to realise that even if I am not able to reach it, I came far along and am the best version of myself, one year from now. My wish is, one year from now, to be able to look back at this comment without feeling regret. -Your young self

About a month ago, I started writing at least 400 words each day. I missed a few days but other than that, I didn't give myself a chance to get out of writing, even if I was too tired and I ended up writing exactly 400 words of gibberish before immediately going to bed. Its only been a month and I'm already in a better place, my dream of being a author seems one step closer. I can't wait to see where I'll be in a year.

This is a very inspiring video, My goal for this year is to start making art again after a decade of being out of practice, build a portfolio as well as learn how to post on and use social media to market my eventual art business. I haven't started posting yet, but as I am learning to make content it was uplifting to stumble upon your channel on a morning when I felt particularly overwhelmed. So thank you for being here. (also, I watched your first video and love that you used the sims 4, I am also a simmer, so that made me very happy lol)

I made things worse when I actually had to sit down and do them, but when I haphazardly do something fun or dumb I found that those brought me a better outlook. Breaking the ice or just going all out works better for me when I had "spare time" during my undergrad years.

I'm honestly not one for "self help" content, but I saw a video of yours a while ago that popped up in my feed about the hate comments you were getting (didn't realise it was an art channel until after I started watching) and at the time I was dealing with a lot of self esteam issues revolving what covid did and not being able to exercise in gyms did to my physically and it really struck a cord. Since then I have been a faithful subscriber and look forward to your videos. I love seeing my fellow Hispanics making their mark on the art world and I hope your career keeps growing on here!

A lot of people are misled on being an artist or creative. Vast majority of artists and authors; creatives are never solely financially stable and will have another job for the consistency of a reliable income - in the past it was literal patrons. The minority are the ones that don’t need another job

I have basically three things that I got back to (=want to implement regularly again, guess that counts, too) - continue learning 3D Modelling and START seriously with learnign to sculpt (I had to stop for a while because I was so frustrated with my art skills that I had to pause 3D) - do online, critiqued classes regularly. I have already booked 2 and plan to do at least one more, after that I want to look for mentorign because I don't know if I can take another class due to time constraints :,D - focus on drawign + painting people. For the longest time I thought I'd just do environments and props but totally neglected humans. You know, the thing that made me start drawing in my childhood. In general, my mind has shifted from "I want to be a concept artist" to "I want to work as an illustrator/mangaka". That is also part of these decisions.

I have an important question that could become an intersting video for your channel, if you think so too.. is there a way to market ourselves successfully without using clickbait titles on social media? I saw you started using them a lot (and also got success from it) I know it works, but it's just not my style.. is it impossible in your opinion? I am just tired of them.. they are all the same for everyone 😢 and social pushes that, I want to see more unpolished people but since it's difficult to grow we only see same contents because people adapt to each other.. Do you think it's just utopian?

I think people often define clickbait too broadly, I personally view clickbait as someone making a promise of a thing that they don't actually deliver on in the video. I try hard to not do this but I do make titles a little more sensational/dramatized sometimes, but I think there's definitely space for something different! Try it out and see if it works!
