I have a different view point. I think that Amazon will grow and the quick commerce and Flipkart will stagnate ( i said that they will die soon in my old comment which is wrong ). Amazon provides good service and has really good delivery service. Flipkart is very bad with shitty customer service who say that it is against their policy for every single thing. And i think quick commerce will stagnate after a point due to it being a premium thing. I never order anything from quick commerce and also try my best to avoid Flipkart due to its scams, delivery issues, and bad service. So i only prefer Amazon. Never faced an issue with it from like 7-8 years. Just an opinion.

Every big mnc comes to India seeing market projections then they realise something called per capita income and income inequality 😂
@pprince24

This argument is not true. China has higher GDP per capita than India, but still Amazon failed because they couldn't adapt, same way Amazon isn't able to adapt locally in India. Meanwhile Flipkart is more successful and profitable even though it is also owned by Walmart, because they adapted successfully to local needs and demands. If per capita would have been the sole reason then Q-commerce would have never been successful and sales through Q-commerce would not have grown in triple digits.

Why not stay focused on "India 1"? This "small" segment is still ~130 million people, which is the same or larger than Mexico, Japan, Germany, UK, and France. All of which are major markets for Amazon. As India continues to develop, the purchasing power of "India 1" is likely to continue to outpace 2 and 3 in absolute terms.

Amazon has the power to go slow and enter only when the time is ripe. They have a huge second to market to advantage (similar to Apple who only enter a new segment when it is mature and proven). I think Amazon is just thinking long term and is not worried about returning VC money like other startups. Their moat is selection, customer service and brand power. There had been discussions for both, but didn't work out. In the case of Swiggy, Amazon can't spend $10 Billion+ to acquire it, as it would be a big amount in a challenging market like India. I have a different view towards Amazon India.. They are intentionally showing negative growth to avoid taxes YoY and meantime they are expanding their business day by day like how Jio initially killed the other players in that sector and grabbed the huge sum of customers. They are doing business in India to kill the retail shops and local market and trying to become a monopoly or with few other players. If you look at the statistics you can witness the number of transactions grown through online purchases over the decade

I am not his fan but while openning a business i actually found there are many structural problem here and with the mindset of Indians at large. 1. There is structural corruption (in fire license, environment clearances, thousands of other clearances and so on) in india and the bureaucracy wants that to stay so that they can arm twist even the very small businessmen in extortion. 2. The people around are so much frustrated that they don't inspire the buddying entrepreneur, rather want to loot them taking help of police, local authority or other ways. they are majority don't want to see any one (other than bahubali corrupted politicians) to prosper. 3. The political parties and the goon attack the business in a two pronged way. The judiciary and the police is also a crappy corrupted agencies. Only political network and money works as all are pretty grey area and no one is accountable. Police won't even show up or take action against the goon, and you can't even sue them for inaction. 4. People (even the average graduate people) don't understand economy. They are happy with freebies with no tax paid. The ease of doing business is in negative. Just as an example of you try to start a restaurant or a flat construction business you have to go through a lot of grey area like bribing licensing agencies, goons, police so that you can just start it. We need to understand and admit the loopholes in india rather self praising always.

Well if Amazon is so expensive why is Amazon's revenue 27000 crore vs 5700 crore revenue for Meesho. I am not sure you can compare these companies. I don't think that a company that is growing at 13% is failing. All of these online companies are still fighting over the 100 million people that can afford to shop regularly on line. Meesho will also slow down as it saturated it's market. If Amazon and Flipkart cannot make money in e-commerce, India will be stuck buying fashion and makeup online and everything else will go back to the old way that suits the retailers and government.
