Why are your hive entrances so small? Dr. Tom Sealey recommends a size of 2.3 inches or so.

Just personal preference. I keep my entrances reduced all year around. The bees are able to guard it better and it helps prevent robbing since I have many colonies in close proximity. Many feral colonies have small entrances in trees. When I switch to Apimaye bottom boards it will be much easier to open them in the spring and close them during the dearth and winter, I’m just not there yet. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! 🙂 A nuc is short for a nucleus of bees. This term refers to a smaller colony that consists of a mated, laying queen and five frames of bees. Thanks for watching!
