You can give them slow fertilizer to help with growth. Doesn’t hurt. They are quite hard to kill. This was the only channel that went into pivots in detail. Not too many people grow them anymore.

Love your channel and updates, I'm about to plant a golden privets hedge, I hope they'll look as good as yours :) Keep the updates coming

Big contrast between the two. How often do you water?

I stopped watering the established ones after 6 months. The new ones are getting twice a week because they had to be moved.

I wonder if pruning the long top runners more often will encourage lower fill-in?
@rsxen8990
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Yes doing that under normal circumstances is the way to go and you are probably right for this situation too. I pruned them back by 25-50% when first moved, but their was so much root loss I didn't want to remove too much of the leafing area, as now each of the leaves are not even a 1/4th of how they were. I may be being too overly cautious and may start doing that.

Planted last Sept here in Chgo. Wondering when to prune? Does pruning initiate faster growth and eliminate flower or berries stages? Haven't flowered yet. Any thoughts appreciated
@rsxen8990

Hello David. Pruning is best mid-spring and fall, as this will be least stressful months. Privets grow very fast regardless. It will help promote the lower parts to fill in. Pruning doesn't eliminate the flower or the berry stage. You haven't seen a flowering yet possibly because they aren't fully rooted to their likely yet, mine did not flower until pretty late. However they may bloom later to your surprise. If they are green and twice as big compared to when you planted them, they are doing great!

Do you think you should have planted them father apart?
@rsxen8990
3 жыл бұрын
These were put 2 feet apart, this is the recommended maximum apart for a hedge. Planting them closer would make a uniform hedge much faster but would take more plants. It would've taken 140 instead of 70.

Hi Irving. If you are asking how long it took for the better side to grow, it has been about a year and nine months.
