I am infuriated by these arguments every time I hear them. They all talk so fippantly about those votes that they wanted rejected. They talk about Trump's right to "fight the government". Those weren't "the government's" votes. They were Arizona's votes. That means it was MY vote, my daughter's vote, my Mom's vote. You get a whole lot less flippant, and start taking it a whole lot more seriously when it is your vote. They know this was a scam. The head of the AZ Republican party held regular streaming meetings where they came up with this scheme well before a single vote was cast. It is all on video....they were planning this for months before the election on video. Yes, a solid portion of my state government was absolutely in on the scheme. Kelly Ward, Andy Biggs, and Paul Gosar were all in the video sessions planning this scheme. They are all corrupt. We fought hard here in AZ to make sure our votes got counted in 2020 (they didn't in 2016 when thousands of us, all Democrats, had our voter registration changed without our knowledge and were unable to vote) and then they tried to put the plan in motion anyway when they got to D.C.

In court, you cannot opine on the mindset of another, but it is still the duty of the prosecution to establish mens rea. Which is essentially the mindset that the defendant intended the crime. You can't attack someone's argument if the only thing you have is the conclusion. This is why the person making a positive claim usually goes first in a debate. I'm in the exact same camp as Destiny. The polarization and tribalism from both sides is only getting more dug in and more intolerant. That's not to say they're equally on par, especially depending on the topics or figures, but when one side digs in deeper, it inadvertently forces the other side to dig in to push back, so there's a strategic dynamic to a lot of it, as well, both vying to control the messaging, with little-to-no intention of conceding any points that would constitute a concession.

The source is a source they've listened to, for quite some time of "feel good" info. Doesn't have to actually be true, just feel good. Words paint a mental picture and they emotionally attach to said imagination of said picture. You come along and challenge it. That's trying to repaint their mental image. What you call blue they call bad, what u call yellow they say orange.. any pin hole in their balloon of feel good, they go off in anger rants. Then toss out random phrases their idol said to "sound informed"..

REMEMBER FOLKS! Don't forget the AMAZING phrase SPIRIT OF THE LAW! And don't forget ambiguity WEAKENS a law and makes restrictive laws able to effectively override. . The law which grants the VP the power to remove electoral college votes did not imply in spirit that this power was limitless. The spirit of the law provides only the existence of the power. Furthermore, the ambiguity of the law weakens its legal power and is therefore much more easily overridden by any laws which restrict its power. For example, let's say Texas passes a law that says "K-12 public school teachers have the power to discipline students". Off the bat there are several obvious ambiguities. Some might uncharitably argue that this law techinically grants that teachers can legally enforce infinite disciplinary power of any type for any reason regardless of morality or reasonability and that this power cannot be restricted. However, all this law is really doing by virtue of it's existence is establish that disciplining students is not outside teachers' authority altogether. In other words, all the law does by granting the power is ensure that the power is allowed to exist. The spirit of the law implies that it is not a guaranteed right. It is a possibility, and therefore a priviledge. Just because the category of 'teachers' are assured the existence of the power to discipline students does not mean that any individual teacher must be permitted to enact that power or that any individual teacher must be allowed to use that power however they wish to. The law is a weak legal assurance. Therefore, other laws which have stronger legal assurances such as assault crimes override this law. If a student was disciplined by the teacher using assault, the legal probibition of assult would overpower any legal power granted to discipline a student, and therefore the incident would not be a legal use of power.

Legal things like doing your job can become illegal when done in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy. Saying Pence was only asked to do things allowed in his role is like saying a govt. official making a decision after a bribe is only doing what's allowed in his role. His job is to make a decision right? Obviously the outside factor of the bribe makes his decision illegal. The same is true here, there is an outside factor of an alleged criminal conspiracy to defraud people of their vote. Conservatives seem to utterly lack any coherent argument in defence of Trump. I mean even his own legal teams core defence is that he should be allowed to do crimes as president, not refuting a single fact in question.

These people are claiming they hate Trump and that he's insane, but they're also really invested in proving that he is innocent. Which would also allow him to run for president. It would be interesting to have a stream that isn't happening in debate mode where Destiny could actually question why these people give a shit if they supposedly think Trump and Jan 6 are bad. My theory is that these people are retroactively trying to defend their own credibility as people who went along with Trump's lies up to Jan 6. They really want us to believe that there was a reason to believe there was election fraud, because if there wasn't, that means the entire republican party and their base are compromised. It would make them all impossible to trust and they won't get any votes.
