You're right. I've never been beaten up, probably because I'm taller and bigger than most White people anyway, but I can't count the number of micro-aggressions I've experienced over my lifetime. Most of the times it's based on an unjustified assumption that I can't speak English. Just within the last month, two people asked me if I spoke English, a retail store rep slowed down her speech to make sure I could "understand her" even though I had first addressed her in English, and a nurse asked me if I would rather read a Chinese translation of the document I was reading in English.

Happens to me all the time, I get dirty looks and disrespected in public regularly. I've resorted to wearing sunglasses and hoodies to cover up my ethnicity, and giving fake names. I change my last name to kim or something and pretend like I'm korean when picking up food in my sunglasses. Usually it comes from females, they think I'm taking up space , money, and resources that a better race man eligible for their affection should deserve instead. Basically, they usually date people who have educational or financial troubles, but they expect to live a lavish lifestyle upper middle class, so they get pissed at me after they gotta break up with them cuz I'm taking their top college spots and well paid skilled jobs. It's similar to how white men used to hate mexicans for stealing their jobs. It's almost a parallel.

my theory is that asians are not racialized the way other minorities are. and that comes from the perpetual foreigner stereotype because it positions your nationality as intertwined with your ethnic/racial identity. so despite asian americans being american, your "allegiance" is ultimately questioned and your "foreignness" ties you to "foreign" oppressive hierarchies. such the example of abcs being connected to the ccp. your foreignness also trumps race so if you are not racialized, your experiences with racism are not valid. this is also related to the model minority myth because asian americans lack racial consciousness which forces them to forge a racial identity that either conforms to white assimilation standards or appropriates other racial minorities. thus, asian americans are denied access to creating their own unique racial identity that can define them as legitimately oppressed. but its also class based, as immigrant policies restrict groups and admit them based on only factors that may benefit the wealthy white majority. those populations tend to be people who blindly follow american exceptionalist ideals and believe strongly in upward mobility and democratic systems. its a "reward" for going through military dictatorships, war, poverty, and political instability. (that often, the u.s contributed to &/or created in the first place but i digress) theres a reason why most viet americans refuse to go back to vietnam, and its not just because of direct trauma, but also political/economic reasons as well. its why they fly the south vietnam flag and call ho chi minh city saigon. but ask most vietnamese people in vietnam and they will think much differently. this all was intentional by america to create a population of immigrants that would overlook their own racial experiences in favor of seeking to become the model minority. so really, the model minority also suppresses class consciousness thus thickening the lines among asian ethnic groups with vastly different experiences and worsening ethnic/political tensions. and they can freely change these dynamics at will. they hated chinese in 1882, then they were ok during ww2 but japanese were hated, and now japan is loved but china is hated again. just as one example. the "hyphenated identity" paradox is that both sides of your identity are completely at odds with one another. asian vs american. you are a contradiction according to orientalism theory by edward said. resolving such dialectical contradictions requires a reexamining of race and class as it pertains to asian american diasporic experiences. it only comes with developing a consciousness of the systems and organizing to dismantle them. tldr: take a asian american studies class. you'll learn a lot

the vast majority of racist attacks in the US don’t involve Asians at all. yes, it has been increasing, from a very low base, so it looks high. but it has happened at much higher rates between others for years, white vs black vs hispanic and vice-versa. and Asians never complained about it back then, or got involved, presumably because it didn’t affect them. It’s hard for other races to have a lot of sympathy (they have some), because the problem for Asians just isn’t anywhere near how bad it is for others. be thankful. and think about getting involved to fix the problem. if you don’t participate in civil society, then you can’t expect those that do to prioritize your issues.

Yo know what, Asian people have a long history of trying to be white adjacent. Not all of us share the same experience and background but we all have benefited from the struggles of other people of color. So I believe it would be in our best interest to push hard for equality for all.

Thank you for saying this. Current immigration patterns for Asians would not exist without the work of other minority groups. Being more socially active in push for equality is what solves this issue😊

I get security and police called on me all the time. Usually by Indians and sometimes by African American and Caucasian women. But growing up I was beaten and robbed a couple times by Korean boys and bullied by them several times and one time by a Japanese American and another time by a Filipino American.

Unless it's blatant. Shit doesn’t bother me, but I hardly experienced racism except during 2020 during Covid and from another minority group too. That was really the only time compared to when I was in high school, also from other minority students. 99 percent of the time I've experienced no racism, and I'm from Texas.

discriminated more from other POCs not Whites, agree but why what is the cause for that?? I think MENA are included as White/ Non European White/, Blacks were here in larger numbers ever since nation's founding/slave master love hate relations with Whites/, Latin Hispanics are of Indigenous heritage/ West,Southwest/ once their imperial land... right?🎉

Asian suffer the most racism despite being behaving so well in public. Imagine if Asian behave like other races, commiting crime, I think the hates will be 10x more. If we already behave well and still get hated, imagine if we behave like other races, we will get 10x hate more than other races.

you live in every place where an asian is present? You a god? If not then how do you know how bad it is or isn't?, some people may exaggerate but if enough people from different walks of life with no interactions with each other are all saying the same thing is it really that exaggerated?
