It's interesting watching the ABA Finals games (some can be found here on YT) because most of the times, the upper cameras were split so that each was about midway along each half of the court. And a lot of the times, to switch game cam from one to the other, they'd both be in a wide shot, therefor "breaking" one of the rules of camera switching. Just fascinating seeing games shot before a lot of the standard practices of today were established.

I’ve noticed that many of the Game cameras in newer NBA arenas are not elevated as high as they used to be. Have you noticed this? For example, when I watch a Phoenix Suns home game…..their game cam is much high/steeper than a lot of others…which I actually prefer.

Yes, I definitely have. It really varies from arena to arena based on how it's built and where the primary camera deck is located. Nowadays, new arenas tend to be built with broadcasting in mind, so there seems to be a bit more consistency, especially at the professional level. A lot of smaller colleges and multi-use arenas can have varying angles, but I tend to agree that the steeper angle is preferable to the super shallow ones.

@@keystoneproductionnetwork8729 Probably a lot to do with how many luxury boxes are in newer arenas, so the cameras are either below them but not blocking the views of the premium guests, or on top of 2 more more levels of boxes, in the upper deck.

My son-in-law is going to be a sports journalist. He just made his first documentary on last season's NAIA baseball champion, the Westmont Warriors. He talks this geek stuff, (No offense), all the time. He's got a good eye. This was some good background info I'm gonna' use as a conversation-starter. I also scoped out the baseball video to pad my knowledge. I'm gonna' hafta' watch more vids. We're going to visit him next month and catch a couple MLB games. Thanks!

Formula 1 is top tier in camera work and broadcast. over 150 cameras and with super slow motion highspeed cameras and helicopter camera and so on . every F1 driver alone has around 5 to 6 cameras..... so let's say between 100 to 120 cameras for all 20 drivers.

Are there game cameras that shoot from back court instead of the side? I would love to see a game from behind for a change.

Sometimes "skycams" or "spidercams" will be used on really large-scale broadcasts to achieve this look, but it's not common, especially because the basket itself would impede the viewers' view from that angle.

I went to the Final Four this year. The stadium is very large for a 1 or 2 camera to be that close on the action. They did have a sky cam. Do you know if the skycam was the game cam?
@keystoneproductionnetwork8729
4 ай бұрын
The sky cam is used separately as its own unique angle. Typically, in that situation, the cameras will either be moved closer to the floor on temporary camera platforms, or they will simply use "longer" lenses to achieve the same look. I'm not sure how they accomplished it this year specifically, but it would likely vary from venue to venue.

@@keystoneproductionnetwork8729 thank you I didn't see a temporary platform where they take out seats like boxing. They must have used a longer lense.
