I think the approach they took to Guts character is amazing, his real struggle for the first half of Berserk is finding out WHAT his goal is, unlike most heroes where they seem to have their goals and dreams established from the start. Guts the G.O.A.T

I'd say this kind of matches Ash in the evil dead, instead of going back to the mundane after being thrown into a world of horror, he guides people through the horror and ends up in a fantasy world. Miura himself has mentioned Ash's design as being sue-ably similar to Guts before.

Guts is a pioneer of will power, no matter what abomination stands before him, he is not surprised, he is not intimidated, he is true to the word ready for anything the universe throws at him, that's why he's the struggler, he struggles against laughable odds every single time and thats what it takes to be able to tell this kind of story. The whole system and writing is revolved around making Guts life more desolate and make him suffer to the utmost extreme. A man trapped in a world of nonsense needs no guide, he knows to expect the absolute worst. Hummanity itself surprises and scares him because he can't cut it into a thousand pieces

I like Boofire's videos, I've watched most of them and I like his analyses, but I implore everybody, including Boofire himself, to go and read the surrounding literature concerning the fraud Joseph Campbell, and in particular the people who have criticized and effectively dismantled his ideas. Campbell was the storytelling equivalent to a fortune teller frauding you with their "cold readings". Unfortunately Campbell has been mythologized into some sort of pop culture expert on folklore and storytelling, but in reality he did far more harm than good for the field. If people are interested in knowing more but can't be bothered to read up about it themselves, I can expound more in a reply.

Nothing about Berserk twists the Hero's Journey. You just have to analyze it on a higher plane. The Black Swordsman arc is the hook, the Golden Age arc is the first act (the exposition), the Eclipse marks the crossing of the threshold, the smaller arcs are the second act and The Fantasia arc is simply the midpoint and the fourth act. The series will "soon" move into its fifth and final act.

@SensusCultura
Жыл бұрын
1) By now, Berserk is far from ending. Miura said Berserk is 60-70% completed. The end is yet to come. 2) The Golden Age is barely the prologue. The call to adventure is the very Eclipse. 3) The mentor met is Skull Knight/Godo and Puck is the supernatural aid. 4) Now Guts being in the interstice, is crossing the threshold, the unknown. 5) The 2 years hunting apostles is the refusal, his task is greater than just revenge. 6) The road of trials is marked by the challenge of taking care of Casca. 7) Then he meets new comrades, his allies and enemies, the new Band of the Falcon. 8) Qliphoth is the Belly of the whale, he “dies and revives”. 9) The goddess is obviously Flora/Schierke. 10) Temptation, let himself be carried away by the Berserker Armor. 11) Atonement with the father, “Spring Flowers of Distant Days”. 12) Apotheosis, with defeating the Sea God, he just defeated his greatest fear, the fear of death and he’s rewarded finally arriving to Elfhelm and Casca regains her sanity. 13) Refusal to return: today, Guts is depressed and has locked himself in a room while caos surrounds him as Griffith disappears the astral world taking Casca away. As you can see, Berserk has followed almost to a “T” the hero’s journey.

@@dest2118 Yes! Yes she is! Cressida Cowell's work actually dose feel really similar to Berserk even if they're for opposite Target Demographics. When I first got into Berserk a Year Ago, I started comparing the artwork to Cowell's recent work Wizards of Once I was surprsised to see how simarar the Pen and Paper artwork looked. But the deeper and deeper I got into the series the more and more my mind got blown by how much Berserk and Cressida's Story's (Mostly HTTYD) matched each other. They have a very boyish often immature sense of humor but when you look into the philosophical, dark, brutal, nature of the story's it's clear they're much much more deeper than what they look on the surface. Cressida's art and direction looked crude at first but when you get into the later and much 'heavier' novels it starts feeling allot like Berserk, with the sense of dread, sadness and horror, finding that glimmer of hope in the depth's of darkness. Even if it's for kids it's way more adult than most of the stuff that happens in the DreamWorks versions.
