Should have a real life spacecraft such as space shuttle to compare with so we can imagine how big theses crafts really are.
@SpearM3064
5 жыл бұрын
@@victorstr9396 Well, the space shuttle was just over 37 meters long, but its cargo bay was only 18 meters long. So its cargo bay was roughly the length of Epstein's Yacht, and the whole thing was slightly longer than the Scipio Africanus. Since the shuttle was designed for a crew of no more than 7 astronauts for around 14 days, and since Scipio is described by The Expanse Wikia as a "boarding craft and lightly armed ship's gig . . . not designed for extended independent operation", I think the closest comparison would be the Scipio.

@@thursdaythought7201 If the weapon being sent at you at a good fraction of the speed of light your only option is to preemptively dodge because you cannot detect the weapon until it's already about to hit you. @OspreyKnight Rail gun range combat is very very rare in the expanse- most ships are built for torpedo combat. In the event of rail gun range combat a bigger ship is still better because there is less chance they will hit a critical system. Once you are in range there is practically no chance they will miss so dodging is out of the question.

@@AlexSDU Yeah. Explicitly mentioned to be similar in length to a large passenger jet or what have you. Three sections to the ships. Command (basically the cockpit etc on a DD) Mission (where the primary weapons or what have you are located) And Drive (the engine. The faction unique FTL system) All three ship sizes follow that system. The actual crew number depends on the species, but I think for the humans the destroyers only have about a dozen crew members at most. The dreadnoughts can have over 500 though. That's reaching aircraft carrier size to be fair.
