From sitting 92 T95 to 94 T96 in one offseason, a Big League transformation from Performance Coach @ph3performance and Orioles pitcher @swirvin_irvin19 🔥
Cole came to us after the Postseason in 2023 with the intent of finding the missing links to his performance goals on the mound.
Mechanical Woes

Cole’s lower half was firing early, starting from the pelvis, which was linked to early rear hip extension. This, in turn, affected his ability to maximize hip/shoulder separation approaching front foot strike.
Being new to plyo balls, the goal was to ease into these while also educating him on the purpose of each constraint/drill. In his drill progression, we used ten toes to find a better plane of rotation in the upper half, roll-ins to train the holding of tension on the back leg and pelvic deceleration at FFS.
We then pieced it together with Janitor throws and Step-Backs to maximize holding backside tension out of the drift down the mound.
The next step was to raise the training velocity floor. We started by testing Turn and Burns to train the throw's rotational component while throwing at higher outputs to create the stress and adaptations needed. Lastly, we blended these with high output bullpens where the focus was blowing fastballs through the catcher's mitt.
Average FB velocity in Cole’s Big League Career (Since ’19): 91.2 T95 mph
Average FB velocity (’23): 92.2 mph
Avg. FB velocity (ST ’24): 94mph T96 mph 🔥
We also did a lot of pitch design work, but that's a topic for another day. 👀
