It's very interesting to me to hear this car requires 500 points. I just wonder how accurate it could be because if for example its only me driving the car, and I weight 150, then wouldn't the alignment be compensating for 350 pounds more than the average weight of the vehicle? Props to some awesome BMW content! Getting the rear camber/toe in the green on F10’s and F01/F02’s is definitely a science. Both eccentric adjustments influence both camber and toe so it takes adjusting both eccentric bolts simultaneously to get the rear in the green. I remember doing some basic calculations during alignments when I first learned of the Integral 5 rear suspension on these and then realized - for expediency, it’s easier and faster to learn the double adjustment technique then to do the calculations. When I used to do alignments on pickups, we would often find out an estimate of tongue weight on trucks that stay hooked to a trailer, and weight in the bed. We could put weights in the bed, and add tongue weight through the receiver to try to get it as close to normal driving conditions. Good practice.

We used to use this model Hunter with the targets clamping onto the rim... then upgraded to the Hawkeye, so much faster putting the targets around the tire vs the rim.

The guy who did my Vette used to work on Indy cars. Former crew chief. Uses fishing lines and other tricks.. than goes and drives it.. comes back, makes some chances, drives it again.. than takes you on a ride.. asks.. here's where the rear goes, you want it tighter or more free.. I say, hold on a second I needed my underwear changed first. Guy is awesome and not many left like him.

Yup. You wouldn't believe what the weights are for. It's to simulate the down force the suspension is under at highway speeds. And, that's 90 percent accurate. A full BMW and Mercedes alignment is close to $350 +. Btw, the holes on modern BMW and MB wheels are exclusively for alignments. The attachment sits on the hub and not on the wheel. Wheel and tire combo can throw it off so they engineered it that way. Still need to reset SAS and driver assist. Sorry bro, but did you check suspension? I assume you did.

Used to do lots of alignments at a tire shop, with the boss breathing down my neck in rush. This is a huge step up from that. However it's also 3-5 times the cost. WHEN you don't know if your alignment is out of spec, go to the tire chain store and pay $75 for a toe and go alignment, then look at the printout and check if any more time consuming adjustments need to be made at a dealership

Work at liarstone have a steering wheel leveler but no weights for the car. Try to get it close to spec everytime but without the weights and centering heads the car sits to high for a true measurement reading. It will drive straight but that's not everything.

@@AnishRamaswamy camber caster split and toe angle. Toe is the distance the wheel is pushed out or in caster is how far forward or backward the wheel sits and camber is angle the wheel is pushed out or in. Toe could be set for instance negative 12 degrees on both sides allowing the car to drive dead straight but wear the inside edge of the tire.

This is an informative video. It was a revelation to see the number of steps in a professional tire alignment. Those weight in canvas bags of lead will over time if the lead pieces are not painted, the will oxidize and the surface lead will become a powder that can seep/shake through the canvas, this will take years. Will have to put these porous bags inside of plastic bags that seal. Keep up the good work. Such a clean vehicle for the 2014

This hit close to me- I just had my truck aligned 3 times and ripped thru 2 brand new tires in less than 7k miles. Bought new tires when I saw the inner side of front drivers side tire. Also got an alignment at the same time. I don’t drive that truck much so when I finally put enough miles on the truck for an oil change I noticed my brand new tire in the same condition as the tire that triggered me to get new tires all around. Tire Kingdom said it’s my shocks, which I agree are old, but the same shock on the other side- has a different wear pattern so I know it was poorly aligned the first time. And of course they wouldn’t replace the tires that kept going bad
