What I like about Stan is that he breaks the "stupid" meathead bodybuilder stereotype. He's well spoken and very knowledgeable. More Rhino videos please!

This is probably one of the best video's on youtube I have ever seen on pling or bbing. Two guys, both extreme athletes in their respective sports having an intelligent, well articulated conversation about two sports that are usually overrun by dimwitted idiots preaching idiotic behaviour. Easy to watch and it just flows. Excellent work, Mark.

Explode up, ease down...maintaining good form. Fast lifting builds power (strength with speed), slow negatives build muscle. Eccentric or negative movement breaks down muscle tissue more and you'll be more sore...then the body builds the muscle cells up to be bigger to be able to handle the abuse. Incidentally, your the strongest during the eccentric phase, second strongest during the static ie. isometric (holding) phase and weakest during concentric ie. positive phase. If you can not stop the movement at the heaviest ie. sticking point and hold the weight, you're using momentum ie. inertia to complete the movement. This is cheating...but cheating is ok if you use it to move heavier weights with decent form and concentrate on the negative. In powerlifting you can use momentum if you're able to create any with acceptable form. Weightlifting is all about explosiveness and momentum...without momentum you'll never get the weight up.

Funny he should mention the 5 by 5 program since that's what I'm doing , except after the 5 sets I'll work with higher reps but do a different movement . I read a Muscle and Fitness magazine and it said Reg Park started that. 5 reps, 5 sets, and after you do it 5 times, you go up in weight 5 pounds. Difference is, I'm 44 and soon to be 45, but I love it since I'm going up in weight lifted similar to the 5 / 3 / 1 program which I have done in the past. Also, I noticed Stan said he goes against the grain often compared to other fitness experts but that's another reason I like this guy. He's not afraid to give his honest opinions about anything.
