Ok I see absolutely where you are coming from but I do think this a bit of an overreaction. I am a complete and utter supporter of bi people and I think it’s dumb when people separate you guys from LGBT community but by blaming it on the gay flag you are kinda blaming it on gay people which really doesn’t help with the separation, it just separates everyone more. More flags should be hung at support buildings of groups I agree but I don’t think anyone is doing this on purpose (generally). Also you’re kinda acting like gay people have all the privilege. The difference between this and systematic racism is that everyone in this situation is facing discrimination and that’s not ok for anyone, it’s not bi specific or gay specific or trans or anything else

just keep in mind, this is a relatively new movement overall, the main advancements only happened in the 1960s. I completely agree more money and representation should be given to other parts of the LGBT community but I don't think its correct that bisexual people are purposefully being silenced, I think we need to give this time before we come to that conclusion. There are many sexualities and genders that aren't given the correct support because we are only just being able to integrate same-sex marriage and trans bathroom rights (and those aren't even common worldwide) , things like this take a lot of time. Its only natural that the concepts introduced to the larger hetero and cis population first would get the most traction. I might be wrong but I do think that if we give this time then more and more sexualities, genders and whatever else will be given the support and representation they deserve. You could argue that racism against all races have been largely dealt with quickly so why can't this? but keep in mind that the LGBT community contains a larger variety of things to 'accept' that are much more complicated as you cant see a sexuality or gender on a person. Its not right, and its not fair but in my opinion this is the direction that we may have to go to have everyone accepted by society no matter what they identify to be. (damn this is long)

Those stats came from 2016. Exactly how much time do gay people need before they recognize that bisexual lives matter as much as theirs? Should bisexuals give the gay community another 10 or 15 years before we start demanding equality from the group that raises money in our name? And how is the support that you advocate for bisexuals any different than the white person who say that they support black people but black people should stop demanding equality because even though slavery ended 5 generations ago, equality takes time.

thats not what im saying. What im saying is that there is support for bi people but seeing as the people that the LGBT community is trying to be accepted by largely can never understand what its like to be part of it will naturally accept those who have been introduced first because they have had more exposure. Im not saying that you shouldnt fight or protest, im saying that seeing as being attracted to the same sex in itself can seem like a mental disorder to some people and to others just hard to understand in general, they are going naturally try and deal with what they are exposed to first and that was introduced on a large scale first, first. All that means is we have to keep on protesting, carry on fighting until everyone is recognised. Its hard to explain my viewpoint on this but i dont think its purposeful, its hard to get recognition for anything like this and we need to keep fighting to get representation for all but i dont think blaming gay people for getting recognised first really helps? the flag was originally just for gay people because of thats all that was known at the time, things like that stick. Yes there are some biphobic gay people (which is stupid btw, fighting for the same stuff i mean seriously) but i dont think it is an intentional shadowing. I know this is the anecdotal fallacy but every young (and by young i mean around teen and early twenties) , homosexual person ive met online and in real life have been supporters of bi people. I am too young to really do anything to support anyone by the way, the support i offer is standing by bi people in protests and whatever else i can, arguing against biphobes. The support i give is another voice shouting 'hey stop that you dumb, dumb people' because thats all i can really do in my current situation ,by no means would i ever tell someone to just wait for their rights to come to them, I'm just trying to explain my opinion on why they arent coming as soon as we would like. I know we dont entirely agree but i hope you can see where im coming from, i don't want this to devolve into yet another dumb internet argument because you genuinely seem like a good, passionate person. (also sorry for all the grammar and spelling mistakes)

What I see is that you are coming from the perspective of someone who is in their teens or early twenties. However, you have to keep in mind that gay teens and gays in their early twenties aren't the gays who control the purse strings within the LGBT community. And gay teens don't make up the majority of the gay community. There are generations of things that have gone on before your introduction to the gay community and there is a community that exists outside of your friendship group. What you're doing is guessing about the behavior of groups of people that you haven't been introduced to yet. And that's fair to do. However, it doesn't give you a complete view of the situation. And what I try to do on my channel is to introduce my viewers to perspectives that they don't often get. Those perspectives are either based on people's personal experiences or on research done on multiple generations. Also, please keep in mind the injustices done to Native Americans, Black slaves and Chinese indentured servants in order to create the country that America is today. In other words, people can intentionally do horrible things to further their cause. In that vein, the gay community has erased the role that bisexuals played in Stonewall, and the creation of Pride, to create a focused narrative that eventually brought about marriage equality. And they did it, and are still doing it, at the expense of bisexuals. The gay flag is a part of that narrative and the continued result of that narrative is that bisexuals consider and commit suicide at a significantly higher rate than gays. The true test of whether gays are sidelining bisexuals on purpose, is to see whether or not the gay community changes their behavior when they learn the statistics surrounding the 'B' in LGBT. So, let's take a look at that. Has the gay community's attitude towards bisexuals changed much in the last 6 years? And I'm not talking about folks under the age of 22. I'm talking about the attitudes of those in the LGBT community that actually have power. The answer can be found in 'The Real O'Neals', a 2017 American TV which was the first opportunity the gay community had to create a network show about what it was like for a gay kid to come out in America. Check out my video on the topic if you don't know how this gay-themed show from a few months ago dealt with bisexuals. But, on top of that, what was your reaction as a member of the LGBT community when you were confronted with the bisexual statistics I mentioned in the video and in this message thread? Was your reaction to help change the injustices against bisexuals, or to defend the system that you, and others like you, benefit from at the expense of others?

In my Marriage and Family sociology class we were talking about sexuality today. My professor talked about heterosexuality, homosexuality, and asexuality. At one point I asked "What about Bisexuality?" His response, as a sociology professor, was "If they're with the opposite sex, they're heterosexual. If they're with the same sex, they're homosexual. I don't believe in bisexuality." This really hit me hard. My professor just said that he didn't believe in my existence. I know that I should have educated him on the topic, but I was so shocked and hurt that I just sat there unable to say a word.

I noticed that at Pride Parades, everything was rainbows! The vast majority of decorations and swag they tossed out was the gay flag. Don't get me wrong, the i love the world in brightness and color, but it didn't show me, or a lot of other bisexuals that came with me, or were there. We just get lumped into the "gay ones". So last pride I tie-dyed my own bi colors t-shirt and bought an umbrella with the bi colors and brought those to pride. I was so happy to see other bisexuals that had found or made bi merch themselves. We're here, we're bi, and we will make ourselves known. To be precise, that is the lipstick lesbian flag, only except the lips are missing on the one in this video. The current standard lesbian flag is only 5 horizontal stripes: two different shades of Orange on the top, two different shades of pink at the bottom, and one white stripe in the center. This “lesbian” flag here has seven stripes, however, this does not invalidate it as this and one other seven stripe versions existed after the LL version, but before the newest five stripes version was created. There is butch lesbian flag too that exists; it has seven stripes like that of the lipstick version, however, it is in various shades of blue and purple. All of these stripes represent different qualities, hallmarks, and dynamics of feminism and feminine love on each of these flags. Just thought this needed some more clarity, as we all know representation matters!
@DiscoDashco
3 жыл бұрын
@@rose-qk1xy the newest standard lesbian flag has five stripes versus seven, and the lips have been removed. However, this does not mean that the older renditions are obsolete. Many women in the lesbian community took issue with the old lipstick lesbian flag for at least three reasons: - Rejection of fetishization: Because the term “lipstick lesbian” (LL) was coined in the late 70s early 80s to fetishize woman on woman pornography. Back then, the stereotypical vision of a lesbian was perpetrated by that of being masculine or “butch”. LL was used to market to heterosexual men, to sell them on the idea that women who would otherwise look completely feminine and thus straight passing and acceptable to them had a naughty side in other women. - Lack of representation: With the exception of the Labrys flag, the LL flag was created before the standard lesbian flag, butch flag, and all other former iterations, creating an incomplete representation of all types of lesbians and members of the lesbian community. Some authors have commented that lipstick lesbian is commonly used broadly to refer to feminine bisexual women or to heterosexual women who temporarily show romantic or sexual interest in other women to impress men. - Bigotry canceled the flag’s creator: The creator of the LL flag ended up alienating herself by allegedly making some remarks including but not limited to transphobia, so there are some in the community who think that should be reason to abandon the use of her flag specifically.

I always feel like, as a bi woman, the rainbow flag isn't really MINE, so you're right. I always feel like, while I laugh and am happy going "GOD I'm gay" when i see any person who isn't a cis man and find them beautiful, it is a sense of internalized biphobia of wanting to be 100% gay in my community, esp when I show too much interest in cismen, and then in the real world wanting to be 100% 50/50 indefinitely so badly. I always remember an argument among the community I saw that gay me were pissed off at the rest of the community for using the word and flag to represent us. The argument to counter, however, was "Society says gay marriage and gay community, so in order to not feel excluded we call ourselves GAY and wave the rainbow flag if it feels right and refuse to stop doing so." So yes, I agree, this is all on purpose to get us to fight among each other, too. I would definitely feel better if the philly flag was pushed more to be for all of us. I don't own any rainbow flag merchandise, but I'll definitely consider the philly Flag before the gay flag.

I too saw that video a while back and felt soooooooo uncomfortable that someone who had already said she was bi was being asked over and over how she knew she was gay. It seemed so backwards for a channel that prides itself on inclusivity. I see it all the time with celebrities too. They will usually start off saying they are bi, but say they prefer queer or something else. I think identifying as queer is perfectly fine, but it makes bi feel illegitimate if you always have to qualify your bi-ness by saying you prefer being called queer. If you prefer it, just state you are queer from the beginning, without making bisexuality feel like a second class status.

I agree with the message of the video, but as the lgbtqia+ grows and changes, so does it’s language. Terms like “gay” and “queer” have been become more of an umbrella term or shorthand for “I’m not hetro”. unless somebody actively cuts your point of view, invalidates you or outright says “bisexuality doesn’t exist” that’s where the red flags show up. One on One talking videos from the Buzzfeed producers usually don’t seem too worried about nomenclature, which sucks, yes, but it didn’t sound like an attack of their identity. From personal experience, I identify my sexuality as panromantic/demisexual But Depending on who I talk to (if they’re an older generation, or not knowledgeable about identities other than lgbt) I’ll usually use the term bisexual because it’s what the person I’m talking to will understand

The girl in the video actually says "I usually say I'm Bi, BUT IT DOES FEEL SPECIFIC", while gay used to be used only about homossexuality, nowadays it is used towards anyone in the LGBTQA community. Let's not forget that language is a living organism, that changes over time. In the mind of the Bissexual in the Buzzfeed video Bissexuality is a subset of the term "gay" and that's why she has no problem with the questions thrown at her, and while you can feel uncomfortable she doesn't seem that way, people have different ways of understanding and approaching what words really mean to them.

Question! If I’m bi, on which finger do I put a ring on? I searched for an answer on the internet but it keeps saying that gay and lesbian people put their rings on their thumbs. So I searched for nothing (thanks internet)... Well, I decided to ask an expert, where should a ring be visible then? ~Greetings, Stenn

It made me extremely happy to see a bisexual talking about pansexuals, lots of bisexuals exclude pansexuals and it makes me extremely unhappy. By the way, I knew every single one of the flags from the quiz. I am very young but I have educated myself so I could help others find their identity, genderwise, and sexualitywise I love this channel, keep doing what you're doing!! Much love from England ❤️

Most people see the "gay" flag as a representative of the whole LGBT community. It has been this way since when it was created in my city in the 1950s. Theres literally no problem with having a symbol used as an umbrella.

We REALLY need an LGBTQIA+ flag, the gay flag is great but it doesn't and shouldn't be used to represent all members of this community.
@agent._.mothman

Firstly that's just the lesbian flag, lipstick lesbian has a lipstick mark on it Secondly the rainbow flag is a general flag representing the LGBT and gay is being used as an umbrella term nowadays. I'm in no way saying no other flags should be represented but the rainbow is the traditional umbrella LGBT flag.

I know this video was from two years ago and things have changed. I am sorry I made a comment before,two seconds ago talking about how you were wrong but I’m just here to clear some things up. Recently gay males have gotten their own flag. But the LGBTQIA+ community have always had the rainbow flag representing the whole community.

My Boyfriend is Bi Sexual, and I'm sick of hearing the term "bihet" or sexually confused. He's not sexually confused, he likes both genders, just because he's with a "cis" gendered female doesn't make him a Heterosexual or a bihet. Now he refuses to be apart of the community because of the way Bisexuals are treated. I'm sick of the hate towards them too.

I’m bi but I’ve always felt like the gay flag represented everyone in the lgbt community. I like the bi flag too but I’ve always used the gay flag as representation for me and everyone else in the community, allies too. I just don’t like when the whole “you’re too gay for the straight people and you’re to straight for gay people” thing happens. My best friend is a lesbian and she said that about me once. It sucked.

For the vast majority of the world, and by definition, "gay" and "queer" are not umbrealla terms that acurrately include bisexulality. But it doesn't hurt anyone if that's your feeling. However, when you work for a corporation that makes money from their progressive views, and when your videos get over 1.7 million views it's important to be more accurate.

Hmm... I'm not sure if I completely agree here on your take of the Pride Flag. I have a very dear friend, whom I will call T here. He is a part of my Found Family, and also a walking, talking time capsule of the LGBTQ movement for the last 50+ years. He was working across the park from the Stonewall when the riot erupted. He was there for the first ever Pride Parade. He knew Harvey Milk. He was frontline in the AIDS crisis, having survived well into his 70's with full blown AIDS. And he also knew and helped Gil Baker make the first 8-stripe Rainbow Flag (it had hot pink & turquoise stripes). By T's account, the Rainbow Flag was made to be a symbol of the Big Umbrella group within the Gay Rights movement of the early-mid 70's. That included gays, lesbians, trans, and bisexuals. Gil Baker wanted his flag to be a symbol for EVERYONE within the community (while it was, & still is, called the "gay community", almost everyone saw that title strictly as shorthand). The biggest pushback to that all-inclusive vision against we bisexuals was because we "had cover", where we could pass & be accepted in straight culture. And we have been stuck there ever since. And T knows this is where myself & other bi/pan people feel like we have been placed by both the straight & gay communities. So when I see the Rainbow Flag, I don't see what you are seeing. I see a promise undelivered by those who should be our allies, as much as we are theirs. I see the bi community as the kids with divorced parents that are full of passive aggressive remarks for one another... fighting for an identity for which we are routinely made to suffer.

I absolutely adore the passion in this video and its complete truth. Can I ask you this? Do you think people that aren't bisexual are confused about when people are masculine/feminine balanced of bisexuality especially for a Man who is Black? Because apparently bisexual apparently means you are suppose to be 'just' feminine. From what I have seen, these stereotypical spectrum's that many feminine Men have portrayed unfortunately have confused perceptions, because apparently if you are masculine in the gay community you are considered false, dangerous or deemed trade, if you are masculine and feminine balanced vs mostly feminine, to the straight community you are considered gay. What I mean is simply this.. (from my experience living in a lot of places across the US.) - White Men can be feminine and have girlfriends or wives, but considered straight to others because the white community is open to the idea of him being what he says he is. - Black Men can be masculine and feminine balanced and considered gay. (I recently been told I was playing a song & dance) because I identify as bisexual and they believe they I am still confused about being gay or confused. So when you say that you are Bisexual, people are confusing you other the average white male who get a pass, which can be damaging like a virus. Then the next question when you clarify that is always followed up by gay and straight community "well who have you had sex with more, men or women?", followed by "I knew you had a little something going on because of the way you dress or the way you talk" I don't even know how to end this, but there, there is the stuff on top :)
@BisexualRealTalkNow
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a lot of confusion about how a man's masculinity and femininity relate to their sexuality. Though, it isn't confined to the black community. It is just worse in a lot of black communities. But the reason for that is that many middle-class white men have been educating their community longer than black men have their community. It's all about educating people and there is no escaping the process. Less black men have been willing to stand up and say "I am bisexual". And then when getting pushback, stand their ground and go through the process of educating people. Educating people is the only way things will change. And a lack of education is the only reason those damaging responses still exist.

I got the bi, pan, and asexual flags correct. I did recognize most of the others but, I tend to get the colors mixed up a bit. I think the reason why the rainbow flag tends to be used the most is because, it is easily recognized and may have been the first pride flag.(Actually there may have been one before that but, all I could find was a vague reference about Nazi death camps symbols or something? )

I want to start by saying that I loved your video and the way you did everything. Your example was very thought you I will be subscribing and checking out other videos. However, I was a little frustrated that you insinuated that black people are getting locked up for using MORE marijuana instead of what actually happened which is that police targeted black people, but also increased patrol in impoverished areas black people were forced into by housing discrimination, job discrimination etc. and by over policing areas where more black people lived and by using marijuana to label them as a felon, a lot of black people lost their right to vote. Felons still lose their right to vote in some states and as you said, small amounts of weed put black people in prison and label them felons and white people were more likely to get little more than a finger wag. Also, If I recall,, there are RECORDINGS of Nixon saying that. Also a side note: Opiates/Opiods (Heroin, for example) Physically don't typically cause much damage to the body. The danger is that they are very addictive and, with heroin in particular, it's very easy to overdose on because you can guess at the mount you're doing, but you can't KNOW, THAT is the biggest danger of heroin. btw if you have a classification that says Its too dangerous for scientists to study when Chlorine Trifloride (Cfl3) is fine- It's .. You know what? All of those DEA classifications are stupid and not based on ANY fact about ANY of those drugs. They aren't useful classifications. I mean, the highest classification is basically"It's not useful and it's bad, but don't you dare fact check me on it!" That's a good indicator that it's not a great system..
