Same!😃 Figure collecting was my first way of splurging money for myself. I was always so afraid of spending money, especially online (properly because of the bad reputation it had 2010 and up, because it was so new and people where afraid of getting scammed). So figure collecting definently helped me with my relationship with money. Figure collecting was the sole reason I started to learn how to do budgeting. 😁

I used to hoard my money like a dragon, if I had £80 a month of spending on nonessential items I would spend the next 3 months living like a monk to make up for it. I started collecting figures and its just outright broke my brain. I spent the entirety of last week talking myself out of sinking £600 on the Chocola+Vannila 1/4s like this hobby does things to you.

@@111111hakar I get you! I first started with 4 nendroids. At the time unimaginably expensive!💸 Not to forget the shipping and customs I had to pay for each separately because the order wasn't consolidated 😫💰 A year later I bought my first scale + a nendroid and 6 month later I spent 1000 bugs💸💸 in one go 😥😅 not gonna lie I instantly cried after making that purchase (for no apparent reason). Figure collecting is similar to spending money on app games. Do it for fun that wont hurt lifestyle. I switch to figure collecting after spending thousands $ on digital figures in genshin and FGO. Never regret the switch because I got bored of app games after a few months, but figures are forever. Never need to worry about server shutdown like crunchyroll princess connect app game.

I collected from about 2009-2020. Started with Revoltechs and then stuck with mostly figmas, sh figuarts, and other posable figures. I sold most of my figures once the pandemic hit just to free up space in the apartment we live in. I’m getting back into the hobby on a very small budget (being married while paying off 2 cars and saving for a house in America is expensive lol). I found your channel and I really like how you are speaking on not having to buy every figure. There are so many good prize figures coming out! This might sound controversial but I don't like big figures, I love having detailed miniatures of the characters I love! 😁 So 1/4 were never it for me. I completely understand the weirdness being a figure KZitemr, as being a viewer u were my 1st figure KZitemr & at that time it was a bit interesting just watching someone else showing their figures on KZitem. However, since then you have become a regular KZitemr that i watch & i always look forward to ur vids and seeing ur enjoy in a figure is so fun to watch. I totally get not having a lot of time for a lot of hobbies or challenge in work life balance. I’m a first year dental hygienist student (did 2 years of uni back in southern Alberta prior) which is a lot more involved academic wise in having a higher pass fail grade in each class then what people think for harder subjects. At the start I wanted 95s 90s because it felt like I had to prove myself that I could stay afloat in the program. Now I’m just happy to pass while still striving to work hard and get higher but not be sad if I don’t reach it. As my mom says “what do you call a doctor that finished last in med school?” The answer is doctor. Doesn’t matter if you are the best or the bottom as long as you still make it then it doesn’t matter where you fall in your goals. Combination of working hard at university, being enterprising and good fortune, nothing to be ashamed of! I would suggest you start saving some though to put a deposit on a house or apartment. As a long time collector I can say you will reach a point where you have no more space to display figures and have to consider selling some. I would suggest every six months have a look through your collection and see if there are any that aren't giving you that spark or maybe didn't turn out as you hoped then sell them on. Will give you more money to spend on a newer figures you really want ;)

Hello from next door BC! You're absolutely right about enjoying this wonderful hobby however we can & being inclusive not elitist about it! On shipping costs, I once paid almost the same cost (~22k yen) in shipping for a 1/4 scale via DHL, & as I wind down my active collecting due to running out of space, this has made me gravitate toward GSC shop with its flat 2000 yen shipping fee. Because of your channel's spotlight on Binding 1/4 scales I've gotten over my past aversion to 'lewd' figures & have a couple preorders from them too (Myopia Sister & Ally)! On Chinese figures it makes total sense that they're coming out with quality figures since even the Japanese ones are made in China - we know they've the technical know-how & manufacturing wherewithal to pull it off. It was great to hear about the work you do outside of figure collecting. That you & many other bright minds in industry are working hard on carbon capture processes in Alberta, famous for oil & gas extraction, offers a glimmer of hope that just maybe, even if Canada fails to meet its global climate commitments, it will not fall too far short. I wish you all the best in your professional endeavours whether they be in academia or in industry!

What i usually do (if i can't make more space) is the " if you want a new figure you have to get rid of one you like less" and then if there isn't one i am willing to get rid of it's kind of obvious I don't need that figure. Also, if you're after almost anything union creative wait until its released. Everything that isn't a calne ca tanks so quick. Honestly I can't look at you the same after knowing you ordered those Power and Makima nurse figures 😂They look pretty bad imo, and that price, good God (I dont really like nurse figures in general though so I'm biased from the start). Edit: just got to the end of the video were you're talking about it: I don't like it because I think the texture looks really smooth, which is my issue with nurse figures in general. The flat plastic on the scrubs, flat plastic on the tights, and flat plastic on the garter all looks very samey to me. It also reminds me of a nurse figure I bought a year ago that I hated after it arrived xD. I'm glad you like it though, and I do think it looks like the illustration! Power's teeth are the only thing that are a bit off imo

@InfamyOrDeath -__- Texture is more than material, its also the mold and the paint. The way a bunny suit has stitching molded in, and is painted to reflect light. A nurse uniform doesnt have any detail that needs to be added, and it doesnt catch light in an interesting way, so its just going to be flat

@InfamyOrDeath -__- An example of nurse figures I like that have "texture" are Native's Kongoshi Momoi (the stockings are textured, theres highlights painted into the clothes, the armband is reflective) and to a lesser extent, the Idolmaster Cinderella Girls one. I mean at the same time if you think about it, why even feel guilty about spending that much on a hobby? You don't really need to justify it and even if you saved that money and applied it to a house...house prices were bananas for the last two years. Plus you live in BC which was some of the highest prices for houses in the western hemisphere which was even inflated during COVID. Month to month expenses, being a homeowner is expensive regardless and just because you could afford a downpayment doesn't mean you could have kept up with the upkeep and cost of monthly bills. That's how I cope lololol

This is gonna be a long comment sorry in advance > < I think it's kinda rude of people who said what they would have done with the amount of money you spend on your collection & it's actually sad people wanted a justification for it & I'm really sorry for that. But I did find it cool to get to know more about you, especially with you being a student & your work life balance, your volunteering & plans for the future. As a fellow female figure collector I love how you talk about wanting more representation in your field. I'm also a student & even though I'm not (anymore) in STEM, my degree in arts only has male profs, which sometimes is a little intimidating to me, in school my favorite teachers were always women. But my profs made sure at the the start to emphasize how important women who study are & that it is ironic they're saying that but there is no woman teaching. I find your work & aspirations really admirable. I love your videos, to me they are perfekt. You're actually the only figure collector I regularly watch because you're so chill & even though our interest don't really align your enthusiasm & positivity really have a positive Impact on me & I'm so happy for you because I can really tell that it is a passion for you. I also love how you collect lewd figures, they're just so much fun. Last think I want to say is I also love the Makima & Power figure (I didn't even finish CSM yet) & also think they don't look too bad but the price point is making me not get them. I love figures where two characters interact & this one checks so many boxes for me but that is sadly a hard pass. I'm not sure If the price will tank so much that it's gonna be afforadable for me but I hope so.

love how that shirt looks on you! Also I'm definitely a bit of the opposite -- I get into a lot of hobbies and communities and I don't necessarily drop them. And I can go really deep into those hobbies. But I pick up new hobbies and interests very often and sort of "rotate" through prioritizing specific hobbies depending on my mood. I stick with my hobbies but I also have a pretty short attention span so I'll step away from hobbies and "be distracted" before I'm reminded of how much I loved that hobby and pick it back up. Also so impressed by you juggling youtube and your program. I tried doing my master's program while being a full time developer and I was dying. I didn't last more than 1.5 semesters and definitely dropped the program. I was also attempting my masters part time online over the start of covid and the lack of "student community" and struggle-bus in-person experience really really killed my motivation for studying and learning. And it's so hard to pick up education again after stepping away.

I also collect blu ray, manga, LN and even weiss schwarz cards by the case for my favorite characters. I would say that the biggest constrict on the figures is definitely space as opposed to money. I mean fundamentally it's still money in a matter of a bigger house but... insofar as direct spending goes, I can afford more figures but have very limited space to put them. I'm not entirely sure if I even have enough space for all my pre-orders, many of which I've already paid for. Granted, I'm trying to keep them all in my room, but I rarely leave my room so anything outside would not be properly enjoyed.

I've spent a ton of money on figures as well and I'm also in a similar position as you are in terms of your expenses so I completely know what you mean. I think the money for your collection makes sense honestly. My collection is at least $30,000 USD and I have around the amount of figures you do. A lot of my earlier collection was also very cheap so that's part of it.

I'd love to buy more figures but I'm saving up to buy a house right now. After that I'd probably go back and buy some more. I'm really hoping to buy the Xenoblade Nia figure when it comes out.

I was wondering that ! My guess was middle to high management job in the US and just buying from Japan without the EU custom taxes (50$ per package + import taxes). It was an easy guess, i wasn't that far off 😅Even with that job (2-2500k after taxes monthly top) in Europe you don't earn enough to take the hobby to that level (Especially after rent / loan , car and daily expenses). The youtube revenue was a surprise tho, I tought that thing paid almost nothing now (especially since 30k "isn't that much subs"). Good for you ! More figures to buy !😃

Oh my god, are the import taxes and customs that bad in Europe? I was thinking about maybe buying one prize Hatsune Miku I saw (I think it's like 15-20€), but I didn't manage to look at the extra cost apart from the figure itself yet.

@@nutella7162 you have no idea man, if you live in Europe and don't intend to buy 400-500 packages at once, just find a local store. The Japan / US import taxes + shipping is only worth it for "big" orders. For a prize Miku, just don't try you're going to get charged twice the price for it at least just in taxes. Find a miku in a local store or contact a store to ask for special order (they can afford it since they ship like thousands of euros of orders monthly for their stock)

@@Toto-95 bruh you're kidding me, and I thought "well shit imma have to sell an organ for a scale to ship to Europe, but at least I can get myself some prize ones"...and nah, I don't have a local store for hundreds of kilometers. The nearest one is in Germany or Austria if I'm optimistic, and that's like two whole countries away from me. And I thought our manga prices were criminal, let alone figures. So many online manga stores are North American centric I had to literally google where tf do I buy manga in Europe that doesn't cost triple of its original price.

Question! I was wondering if I should purchase faux fur or anything to put below kneeling tight ver bunny figures. My worst fear in the hobby is having the tight vers of my figures start becoming damaged due to inproper storage on wooden & glass shelving. Do you have any suggestions or will they be fine as is. The only article I could find was to not use any other color of faux fur besides white due to paint transfer; I had JUST put some light blue fur in my cases but upon reading that I took it out D: Any suggestions?
