If you're trying to get your baby to take a bottle but you're not having very much success, here are some tips and tricks and hopefully they'll help you. First of all, a lot of babies don't like the taste of formula. So if you're trying to get your baby to take a bottle it might be best if you can pump or express some breast milk and give your baby that in a bottle. So then they don't have to get used to a new nipple and a new taste, just the new nipple. A lot of babies have a preference and they prefer certain nipples and bottles to others. So you may just have to try the different kind of nipple and your baby may be just fine after trying a new kind. It's also best to have someone else other than you give the baby a bottle for the first time and until your baby has gotten used to it. Oftentimes babies won't take a bottle from their mom probably because they know, hey that's not the real thing, you can give me that, so they don't want the bottle from you. Have dad or someone else give the baby a bottle. And timing is important. It's best to maybe express or pump about a half ounce of breast milk and give it to your baby one to two hours after feeding when your baby is happy, alert, and open to new things. If you wait until your baby is screaming and starving it's probably not going to go over very well. Also, your baby was probably looking for comfort the first thing in the morning and before you put your baby down at night. So these probably aren't good times to try a bottle also. During the day maybe the early evening when your baby is alert and active and awake and happy, those would be good times to try. The bottom line is be persistent and don't give up. After trying for a while your baby will eventually give in and learn that this is something that is going to happen. And perhaps the most important piece of advice I have for you is just to be persistent. Offer it to her every day and eventually she'll learn that this is just something she is going to do. Also be patient and avoid getting frustrated. A lot of parents when their baby won't take the bottle, they wait until their baby is frustrated and the baby is not responding well so the parents get frustrated. They just want them to eat and they shove the nipple in their baby's mouth and your baby is going to start associating a bottle with something negative. Just be calm and quiet and collected and let the baby experiment with the nipple and see how she feels about it. If she still hasn't eaten after about ten minutes then stop and just try again the next day and leave it on a positive note so that she doesn't start to have negative associations with the bottle. I hope that these tips help you and if you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
