I have a 1 year old who's never had a hairball but shes having an am & PM retching episode. After days of olive oil and hairball ease I took her to the ER. I couldn't afford xrays. The next Monday I took her to the regular vet. He didn't feel a mass in her intestines, saw nothing in her throat and isn't dehydrated. His recommendation is to give her hairball paste every two hours until she has diarrhea. She still hasn't gotten diarrhea but has only had one episode that night. Today nothing until now when she was sleeping. I've added wet food and have ordered through chewy a daily paste. Due to the cornea no stores had it in stock. Plz send positive healing to my kitty. Thank u for this video, very informative.

Thank you my cat Star has a persistent fur bal problem since she was 8 weeks old. Her brother, Luky never had a problem. She has 3 paws and I help her since I got her and her brother both, at 4 weeks old in 2012. I use grass to help her pass the fur balls. Lots of good fiber in green and dried grass.

My two cats Red & Tigga are doing really well. I feed wet & dry. The girl Tigga is small (7lbs) the boy Red is fairly big (13lbs). A mom & her son eat four times a day about every 6 hrs. Hair balls are few & far between. Red has two golf balls in his bowl to slow him down. This smaller multi feeding really seems to help. It’s troublesome but it’s a way to keep them fit & happy. They get one all-dry-food feeding in the morning & a mix the other three meals. One can of food total & about 3/4 to 1 cup dry total not each this means combined. Red gets about twice what Tigga gets. When I fed twice daily they ate odd items, hairballs, always looking for food & into everything. Oddly they ate more food w/two feedings & were getting fat that why I changed. Two to three then three to four & they were happy then. Every 6 hours I get headbutts, long meows & stared at.

What does the coconut oil on the paws do?
@karenkatmom3635
3 жыл бұрын
@@vdotme - I put coconut oil on her paws + she licks it off. You can also put it in their food. My cat only eats dry food (+ YES, I have tried to get her to eat wet . . .). The coconut oil acts as a lubricant, so the fur will “go down”, rather than “up” in the form of fur balls. I tried Petromalt (sp) from the pet store, however, I did not like that it has petroleum in it. Coconut oil is “doing the trick”. Good luck!

I've seen people make judgement comments on the grooming section of the video. Though I would never groom my cat this hard (she would not approve)... and with that type of brush I would never brush close to her eyes ... from what I can see... the cat in the video is actually liking it... he even rubbed against her thumb...self combing his face and adding his sent to her... at one point he even pushes his head in the brush... it was not a long session... the video is on a loop. If he felt overstimulated or in pain... he would swat, move away or show agression... ... maybe this cat is like people... some like it a bit rougher?

08:53 - feed your cat 4-8 small meals per day? You have to be unemployed to do that. That or retired housewife/hubby and even then you have to not be leaving the house for long. 8am, 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm. I had read that cats are most active at dusk & dawn in their natural environment when their prey are most active so I feed mine wet food just after dusk and just after dawn - the times I take her back in and let her out the next day in winter. I stick to similar (ish) times (for early to mid summer) 8-9pm and 6-7am. I leave dry food out for during the day which she seems to eat most of at 10-11am and just before at night 11-12 she eats while I sleep. Just adding one more meal will make it hard to achieve the "keep her hungry" thing as my partner and I both work.

Our all natural supplement Hair B-EZ can help to breakdown hair balls in the digestive system so they can pass through and prevent further complication 😊😊 One of the herbs used is Cascara - The cascarosides found in this bark have a cathartic action that causes the large intestine to contract and form a bowel movement.

When people say to always have fresh water available for your cat, I just have to laugh. I keep a water dish out for my cats that I fill from the tap. In winter, I keep a few buckets of rainwater in the garage to water houseplants with. The cats go out of their way to jump on top of the buckets and drink the rainwater over drinking the fresh water from the tap. When I let them outside when the weather is nice, they will drink water from the birdbath or any container that has collected rainwater. When I fill a watering can with rainwater for outside plants and set it down, they will come over and drink water from it. The cat having an issue with hairballs coughs frequently, but is determined not to cough hard enough to cough it up. I have never seen him cough anything up or vomit. I think he has a digestive system like a horse--food goes through only one way. I've tried Science wet and dry hairball food with no success. Also tried the fish or malt flavored petroleum based goo with no success. Still looking at other options.

What REALLY works great. Twice a week, flick a click of butter on the floor. The butter lubricates the digestive tract and the hair ball is passed. Besides, that spot is the cleanest and shiniest spot in the house. After a while, you can get kitty to come to you, just call "butter" and he/she will come running.

Basically a useless video that gives us no information. What about immediate specific ways to help, like laxatone, olive or coconut oil, or even vaseline? I found these other suggestions on different websites that don't just waste 11 minutes of our life. For anyone wondering, around three weeks ago I noticed an outdoor semi-feral cat I frequently feed that she started slightly retching/coughing when I went out to feed her but nothing would come out. Two weeks ago, I started trying to put coconut oil on her paws when I could sneak it on to her. I managed to drop or smear around half a teaspoon or more onto her paws on five separate days. Then the past couple days when I went to feed her she didn't want to eat and was lethargic so I was afraid she was sick. Luckily this morning, however, I found a vomit with a large furball clump, and she got her normal appetite and activity back, so thankfully the coconut oil eventually seemed to have worked.
