*Fun Fact:* The movie was based on the children's book of the same name made by the couple Judi (writer) and Ron Barrett (illustrator). Though, the premise of the book is the same as the film except there's no Flint Lockwood nor the machine that he invented. Just the Grandpa who read bedtime stories to his grand kids and the meteorology in the original story is the most fascinating fever dream ever experienced.

yeah discord really isn't a social media, by like, any measure. A social media's basis is getting content (or, media) out of things your friends and other people you share a social connection with post. They are intentionally posting things so that other people view them, they are content creators, just small ones. In contrast discord is designed to just let people communicate with each other, you would have to go out of your way to get that sort of content dynamic that defines social media apps. I think some people probably do end up using it like that anyway despite it clearly not being designed for that purpose but I'd hazard a guess that that is a result of their pre-engrained social media habit that they are pushing onto it. It, as an application, is not designed as a social media any more than email is, and if you also consider email a social media then I'd question the utility of that word to begin with.

as a person who was born (and, therefore, had a childhood) with the internet around, even if it was in its early stages, I can somewhat give you a perspective that you may have (or may not have) been searching for. To be honest, I’m not very old. But, from what I can remember, since the world of the internet had always been right at our doorstep, it was just… normal. It was a massive world, filled with all kind of people. But, y’know, as a kid, you don’t really see the big picture, and so, I only saw the internet as “the thing with funny recordings of people”. So I guess you could say, that I think that it would be scarier to live in a small world that suddenly expands to a massive place with anything, than to have always lived in a massive world. So, as a summary, no, it was never scary because it was all we ever knew, and it was also wonderful. Isn’t that something?

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs was one of my favourite movies when I was younger. I remember my brother pirating buying the movie and watching it for the first time when I was around 4 years old. It's one of my earliest and fondest memories. I watched the movie an ungodly amount of times on one of those non touch screen ipods. I'm pretty sure me and my brothers could quote entire scenes with no flaws at this point. I haven't watched it in the past couple of years and I'm so happy that this movies existence has been brought back to my attention. Also, despite all the time I've spent with this movie, I don't think I ever thought of it's message. (Which I guess is obvious because most kids usually don't think about what Shrek 3 could mean for industrial society and it's future.) Of course, movies are a form of art and art can be interpreted in any way you want, but I love this interpretation so much, and the message it gives is one that everyone could use, especially today. Thank you so much for this video!

This truly made me realize how much I've become overreliant on other people's validation. Whenever I release a new video or a new artwork, I feel devastated when it underperforms, it hurts my self-esteem and it discourages me from keeping making more. I want to be able to live off my craft, but at this point I think I'm just being delusional. Start by finding friends with similar interests, it's a good start to find those who appreciate you for who you are. Keep on keeping on, Ed. Another fantastic video, as always. As a small Time artist, I also struggle to balance my well being versus what I think others want or need out of me. It's a battle that isn't easily won, but it's finding people who inspire me and make my day worth living in my every day life that keeps me going. The people behind a screen can be great, even some of the best friends I've had. But it's only part of the story. People are meant to embrace community in all kinds of ways, and that includes their own part in it.

I decided to come back to this because of the Lord-Miller connection, and it made me realize a lot of Lord-Miller films have the same plot elements. The father point you brought up, "some thing or other was a fake and the characters have to reckon with that," AND the "heroes have to get some sort of kill code to the antagonist (USB 3 times out of 4) but OH NO an inconvenience arises!" Does it make the films BAD? Lord, no, they're amazing, it just struck me as funny.

When Eddie said Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs came out before social media was really a thing, it really surprised me. I mean, it came out in 2009 so it should be obvious that it was before social media took off but I hadn’t thought about that before. It looks like a modern film, if it was made today it would look exactly the same. And 2009 doesn’t seem that long ago. Social media is a modern thing so of course a modern film would be from the time of social media. But social media isn’t that old. Social media seems like a huge integral part of society now, it’s crazy to think about how only 14 years ago, it wasn’t a thing. In such a short period of time social media has become a huge part of our lives and society. It’s crazy how much can change in such a short period of time while other things stay exactly the same.

@@maverickREAL It is entertainment not social media. The comment section may qualify but that isn't the main feature like Twitter. Everything on the internet has some sort of social interaction now so you can never really get away from it.

For me twitter was literally the most toxic place. Everyday the masses were angry about something random that I had no idea about. I'm 15 days discord free as well because it was taking too much of my time and I had to do some self reflection. Social media detox is helpful. Too much dopamine is a bad thing

Also the mayor could represent a social media platform/person who owns said platform (think Facebook/mark zukerberg or youtube/susan); Since hes the one that tells Fin to continue with his creation at the beginning, and despite the risk of danger from said creation since he (the mayor) profits off it, like youtube profits from people making videos. Also his goal is to become "big", in a literal (physical size) and metaphorical sense (notoriety), like how a platform becomes bigger and when more people make more content, profiting more as a result.

The guys who directed it, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are great at making films and shows you didn’t know you wanted.

Dear Eddache , Never feel like you have to sacrifice your personal needs for your audience. There are almost 200 thousand people who watch your videos every time you upload. I recently went on a binge of your content, and I fell in love with it all over again. Please don't overwork yourself for us. You deserve time for yourself. As long as you're doing that, I don't think I'll stop watching anytime soon. -Sincerely, me.

Yeah Miles from Spiderman should consider himself LUCKY. Yes he lost his uncle but he still has his dad! FEW heroes can say they still have a living parent! We gotta face facts here folks! If you're the parent of a super hero....it's nearly a death sentence. But in all seriousness I can more than relate to whats being said here. As an artist I struggle on a regular basis for acceptance and validation. Trying to find that ONE thing that'll make me stand out but at the same time have it be something I enjoy too. Turns out it's hard!

Hey @Eddache. The "its so hard" bit was the first thing to make me properly laugh in days. Cheers dude. Also good talk about the social media hellscape.

I'm thankful I was a little older before the Internet got popular. It must be awful having to learn How to regulate the intake of social media. where's I just on my own just don't care like breathing it's something I understand exists but have never seen as a skill.

i guess if Cloudy was a food, it'd be a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, because this shows how deep it is, even if that wasnt the social commentary that the creator had in mind. still it's one of my favorite movies, i remember even dreaming about food raining around me, boy was that trippy!

I actually always liked cloudy and a chance of meatballs 2 over the original but maybe I’m just a sucker for the spider dog burgers. They were very cute
