Easy. Buy Water Kefir grains on Amazon or from some other seller if you don't know someone who has them. Coconut water is available in the supermarket. Just be sure to get some without preservatives or it won't ferment. Milk Kefir grains would probably work on coconut milk if it also doesn't have preservatives, but they might not multiply. People have been fermenting their own drinks for countless millennia with no problem.

So much useful info here. Serotonin connection with the vagus nerve was great. I've stopped drinking Kombucha because it was ruining my teeth. It was burning the enamel off my teeth, leaving me very sensitive. Just like this guy said. You can use a straw to avoid it touching your teeth, but I found even using a baking soda rinse afterwards wasn't helping, it was still destroying my teeth. It took about 4 months for my teeth to get better after I stopped.
@elishamoretti6316

I'm sorry that happened to you! Just a question though, how long were your brew times? Did you reduce the first ferment period at all? Wondering if that would have lessened the effect on you. I have just started making kombucha, I've been researching like crazy! I'm kind of scared now...
@aguafria9565
7 жыл бұрын
I don't brew anymore, but if I did it again, I'd buy a pH meter to measure the levels before drinking it. My understand is that they change quite drastically during the ferment process, going up and down within days/weeks. My usual first ferment period was 7 days, but I have tried shorter periods which seemed to have an increased acidity judging from the teeth sensitivity I would experience after drinking. I blame myself for not learning more before I started out, but not once did I come across someone mentioning the dangers to our teeth when we drink Kombucha.

but kombucha is not naturally "forced CO2" right? like proper well made kombucha is not carbonated ..? and theres acid in kombucha? what part of it does that? like whats the detailed differences between kefir and kombucha ? i drink a lot of water anyways so i think it rinses off well, and i buy a local komucha that is very simple, it has a much less "carbonated" feeling and its less sweet and less intense, it just feels better. and then when i try the california brand GT's kombucha its waaayy too sugary and waayyy to carbonated and just way too intense.

Elijah I thoroughly enjoyed your video . Do you have any T shirts to promote this coconut healthy kefir, these can be exported nationwide? Are your men using a machine lift to pick the coconuts ? What are you doing with the coconut straw after you strain the firmer coconut meat , I was thinking it would be good for banana bread muffins . Wish I could eat some of your yummy coconut kefir . In canada I saw a merchant selling coconut yogurt and when you opened the container there was a swirl of a sweeter coconut liquid inside . So you experienced 2 tastes , the tangy coconut and the sweet . All the best in growing your business in Oahu !

If you make your own Kombucha, you can definitely ferment it long enough to eliminate the sugar. Businesses can't do that, because most potential customers are accustomed to sweet drinks. If you leave it long enough, your Kombucha will resemble vinegar.

The cultures that ferment these drinks were around long before refrigerators, so I really doubt that they need constant refrigeration. You can make Kefir from grains that live on indefinitely if reasonably treated. You don't have to buy powders. Government requirements for large scale businesses are much more stringent than what is necessary in a home.

Someone needs to tell Elijah that it is impossible to turn maple sap into kefir. The reason is that maple sap is volatile and has a very, short life. This is why it is processed into maple syrup and done so quickly. Usually it is reduced within hours, not days, to maple syrup. Whereas if you were to use maple sap in a kefir the sap would spoil.
