Having run a KZitem channel for a few years and getting a pop like this myself with a time lapse pool installation video, seeing some of your graphs brought back some nice memories. What caught my eye looking at your thumbnails when I first noticed you were blowing up, was how suggestive it was of the content. I'd never heard of lenia, so the comparison of the glider to something that was more complicated was instantly attractive. That aspect of "here's something you know" and "Here's something new and related" catches a lot of people's attention. Hope you have some continued success! Good luck finding a video card.

Also you've got interested eyes on you for the moment. Fill out that about tab for you channel, set up a discord server or something. Stuff like game of life and code is immediately community building because it is shareable and collaborative. Giving us interested folks a place to gather with like-minded individuals that is insulated from established huge communities probably isn't a bad idea

I found your channel through the Lenia video when KZitem was giving it it's own 15 minutes of fame. I saw another comment that talked about how that Lenia video combined something people are already familiar with with something novel new and exciting. I've heard on Tom Scott's youtube channel that that's a good recipie for success. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you'll make in the future

There are a lot of large creators around this niche. 3B1B, carykh, primer, code parade, computerphile, mathologer, ben eater, etc I think the relatively sparse upload schedules means there’s a lot of unmeant demand from these audiences looking for similar videos. When this audience discovers new channels like this we’re very excited “The Third Build” is a similar channel that has also blown up recently Keep up the good work!

@@neatai6702 Oh! I found the playlists. The issue was they are not on the home page and I assumed there is none because of that. Maybe, I'm not alone and it could be beneficial to the channel engagement to put some playlists as additional sections on the channel's home page. I see other channels dedicate a section to each on going playlist and a section listing all playlists.

As to your statistics "mostly male viewers": Google/ KZitem has a weird position towards sex/ gender. I offered the information that I was a woman in my sixties. And I got suggested fashion, family, (grand)children, make-up, household, cleaning, etc.. All of which I have close to absolute zero interest in. So I withdrew my information and left it at unspecified age and unspecified sex/ gender. Now I could filter my own interests - BUT: The ads I get subjected to are speed/ violence/ sex oriented. I went back to the filter. I discovered that no matter what I do I can't escape the bias of the algorithm. Google regularly assesses me "due to my interests" as "male 25-35 years old". Not only are women obviously not expected to be interested in maths, physics, puzzles, politics, history, science fiction, action films etcetera. Men are obviously expected to be automatically interested in speed/ violence/ graphic sex with a tendency to abuse. Both do injustice to many regular people of all ages, sexes and genders.

Congrats on the algorithm bumb 😉 Video idea: You had a fitness function for how "interesting" game of life start positions was. Could it be generalized to other domains? Like for example estetic beauty of videos or music? Think you mentioned certain structures, repeting patterns and symmetry gave high fitness. This is things humans like in all things sort of. I dont know how general it was implemented, but if it is easy to switch input, it could be cool to look at output it gives for other domains

Please add generic contact info. This will help people (and the utube algorithm) engage. Also, ask people to “pause” at a moment during the videos and predict something. Then ask them to comment. This will also drive viewer engagement and that algorithm likes it. Finally, I’d like to see a video using that same recipe as Chan applied to chess. The stencil “L” would be a huge 33 digit base64 vector. This would represent the 32 pieces arranged on the 64 squares and the empty state. What are the possible mapping functions “G”? What would an oracle tell us about G? How many recursive layers of G are needed to cause a Wolfram rule 30 like complexity? In what ways can we reduce the stencil (ie what symmetry exists)? Anyway, thanks for your efforts.

@@neatai6702 uuh, thank you so much, this makes me so happy! :) You compare the visualisation a lot to microbiology and organic chemistry, but as a biochemist I do not see that reflection actually. I am comparing Conway's Game of Life more to quantum particles, because there is a lot of cancellation going on for those gliders etc., which does not happen in biology nor chemistry due to the laws of conservation. In quantum mechanics however, when an electron & positron (or some other matter & antimatter particle) collide with each other, they do cancel each other out and convert into pure energy. This makes me curious what your opinion is on the quantum mechanics comparison and also if it is possible that this universe could be a giant mathematical simulation like Conway's Game of Life?
