After Oliver Cromwell's government decided Christmas was too Catholic and full of pagan nonsense to allow anyone to celebrate it, it would not be until Charles II's reign that it made a quiet return. But it was the Georgian period when the festive celebrations would start to get underway again. Full of rich food, superstitions about when to take the decorations down, and plenty of dancing, Georgian Christmas celebrations were all about remembering to enjoy yourself...
