Yup. There’s that saying. We don’t always take the best guy. We take the right guy. Having served in a unit that goes thru a selection process I can attest to the absolute truth of that. There are d bags that are PT studs but guys don’t want to serve with. They usually don’t get selected.

Not a 40 mile ruck, it's a 50 mile ruck. Passing selection means you still have to complete OTC. After OTC you go in front of a review board and you either get a yay or a nay. Passing both selection and OTC doesn't guarantee you get picked. Selection and OTC are two separate parts to joining ACE.

Not to make light of this, but the hardest badge to earn in the Army is the EFMB, or Expert Field Medic Badge. I believe it has a pass rate of 2%. The issue is that the course is judged by people that already have the badge, and they kind of gatekeep it. It’s more of a mental challenge than these SF/Ranger sort of things that you see. There is a ridiculous ruck march at the end as is true of most Army schools/programs, but I think it’s only 20 timed miles. Only. As if 20 weren’t hard enough.

When I was in the service, one had to have already distinguished himself in combat. Just having been in combat was not good enough. Again, the soldier had to have proven himself under fire: calm, capable, and had taken some pelts, so to speak. Then they were invited to try out. . . . The standards might have changed since then, but, yeah, back in the day, wanting it was not good enough. Again, one had to have already demonstrated his effectiveness in real combat. . . . @ThunderKat2012 , you have heard the expression, "based on the needs of the Army" then. Standards for helicopter pilots, for example, have fluctuated pretty significantly through the decades based on the availability of pilots. When they have enough, they tighten the standards. When they don't have enough, they loosen the standards. The "op-tempo" was slower at the time, so they apparently had all the Delta operators they needed. Again, at the time, it was, "Don't come knockin'. If we need you and think you have what it takes, we will find you and ask you to join.". . . I was not a special operator, so I can't verify it. I am just sharing what I was told by TAC Officers at the time. The attitude at the time was the best way to assess if someone would perform in combat was to see them perform in combat. End of story.

Plus it’s kinda hard for a ripped black dude to blend into a Bosnian strip club in a fake Adidas track suit on a PIFWC grab. “They don’t know ME!” doesn’t work so well in that setting 😊 Goggins is a specimen, but JSOC is full of those types. @@Gehrke62Lmfao, what a joke. A regular marine isn’t anything compared to a Ranger. 5’2 chubby Mexican women become marines every year dude.

Imagine we have all these special ops guys and when war breaks out we all find out they mid as fuck. I remember the russian spetsnaz getting all that praise and then boom hostomel airport. Im all for the troops and the training and i believe we are the best better than the sas , ksk, whatever it would be funny as hell if we just end up mid as hell against another modern army.i would fucking cry

Seriously, the long walk is a test to get into Delta? In Russian army it's just a part of regular ass infantry training, and sometimes - a punishment for especially nasty servicemen. If you're an especially "distinguished" individual, you'll also be required to wear a full ass chemical resistant coveralls and a gas mask. In armor. With weapon. While wearing a fully loaded backpack. Oh, and technically that's not actually a walk, because you don't walk like that - you run, or at the very least - jog.
