I think I have been playing the wrong trombone for 48 years and the wrong mouthpiece for 27 years, but I don't want to rush into things.

Just wondering your thoughts on changing between a tenor horn and trombone often, getting used to the muscular difference.

That's a larger difference than I deal with... I think it's possible, but I can't really speak to how to go about it in the healthiest way.

Probably not, I've had one before and it was awful. Like, one of the worst mouthpieces GB makes

Is the yamaha doug yeo replica any good ive been jumping around from mouthpiece to moutpiece lately for my euphonium but my bass trombone moutpiece is a faxx 5g i dont like it for many reasons and the bass trombonist for the miami wind symphony recommended me the doug yeo replica
@AidanRitchie

A 5G is a pretty good tenor mouthpiece. Are you playing bass? Don't go straight to the Yeo, it's quite a big mouthpiece and not a good place to start. A 1.5G is a great place to start though.

The 5g is for my euphonium I also play bass trombone and im looking for a moutpiece and what was recommended to me by Brent Allen Mounger was the yeo.@@AidanRitchie

I've tried twice, both times I just couldn't dig the sound I was making. Always comfortable and usually easy to play but lacking a major part of the sound I want to make. Maybe I'll go that way again someday.

@@AidanRitchie That’s how i feel about my large tenor mouthpiece, but it’s just so nice to have something that feels great to play. I guess it’s just all about compromises

@@elowcow yeah, it's a tradeoff. I feel like the larger the horn, the more tradeoff there is... or the horn has to match it just right. Not sure myself

@@AidanRitchie I'm kind of new to bass, and prefer a smaller mouthpeice by default. I have a 59d that ive been using but switching from tenor to bass is always a major adjustment going from the two, so a smaller mouthpeice i think would be better for me right now. Is it harder to get depth of sound on a smaller mouthpeice?
@AidanRitchie

@@zacharybarker9613 It's more about fitting the mouthpiece to the player and instrument rather than a solid rule- some players sound great and huge on small equipment, some just need a larger rim size to do that comfortably.

What do you know about old instruments? I grew up with tenor trombones from the 1930-60's horns, my was a Cleveland king no idea what kind with a rudy muck and bach mouthpiece. I can't read music, was taught by ear. you want to see some interesting trombone based band music?
