Hey Bob - I met you at the John Brzenk Cup about 7 months ago in Utah, and then did some after pulling at your place after the tourny. It's great to see you on youtube. I also really enjoy these John stories.. keep em coming!

He used human arms & hands as others might use weights and pulleys, it seems. The expression "it took him a minute to get there" is an unfortunate, misleading repeated figure of speech in this, since it is literally false, as he went through so many different people who took the time to tire out; better in the future to chuck the darn cliches and state the facts: it took him about 15-20 minutes to get tired, say. Writers say of cliches, "Don't touch em with a ten foot pole," which is a cliche, for effect. They distort reality half the time.

Max effort, or volume work? Sounds like it was mostly volume as John would hold everyone until he tired

Bob in your opinion when was John his strongest? 2006,2007? Always thought 2014 was the best of his later years💪

I've always thought that his absolute peak was 2008 in Nemiroff. He just goes right through all the top guys like they were nothing. I've never seen anyone demolish Ivakin like that. His fights against him usually ends with him winning after a long fight, but there he just goes straight to the pad. kzitem.info/news/bejne/tZ6kzpt5ropygno My absolute favorite armwrestling video without a doubt!

@@frankdrebin7949 He was indeed very impressive at the 2008 Nemiroff. Although 2008 was also the year he got owned by Larratt in there arm wars super match.. I had heard he was also dealing with a wrist injury at one point in 2008. Maybe part of the reason he didn’t do so well against Larratt..??

@@AMF96 i believe he had shoulder surgery months before that supermatch

@@AMF96 yes, I've also heard that he was injured but back then they also used the hustlestrap which was in Larratts favour, I think. Larratt also used his height and other tricks to get advantage in the startup and I've seen Brzenk say in a video that the judge wasn't really doing his job correctly that match. In that match you can see Brzenk try to get a fair grip but it wasn't possible. However, Devon was also in very good form back then, one of the best in the world.
