OMG - The first quilt I would always look for, whenever I went to any of those big quilt shows, was the Best In Show quilt!! Boy, this one did not disappoint! It was magnificent!! I haven’t been to any quilt shows for several years now, due to health limitations, so it was fun seeing the quilts you chose, as well as your own, which were both beautiful! Congratulations for being accepted to have your quilts hang in this show!! Reference your comments about the vendor booth situation, that is so frustrating, & makes shopping difficult, if not impossible! I don’t know how many times I just walked away from a booth because it was just too crazy! Disappointing!!

I wonder if I had gone later in the day if the vendor booths would have been less crazy. The only one I did any shopping at was Legit Kits - which was pretty spaced out!

Great video, Becca!! I'm not surprised that most of the quilts that caught your eye were some type of star pattern! LOL! Great job on the judge's comments for your two entries . . . I've been quilting for 30+ years but have never had a desire to enter any of my works of heart into shows for judging, but I think you just inspired me to enter one in a future show! Hhhhhmmmm . . . .need to think on that one for a bit! LOL

I enjoyed watching your review on this quilt show. Absolutely beautiful quilts and I love that you entered two of your quilts and they were shown and graded. To know what they look for and how they grade is educational especially since I'm very new to the quilting world. I'm very happy that you entered your quilts and they are beautiful quilts. Congratulations ❤

Your Eursala makes me smile ☺. I like your form of match stick quilting. It definitely has more texture to it. 💖 Your other quilt is very pretty. You and Beth ( and Mary..?) did a wonderful job bringing it to life! 💞 Thank you also for reading the artists statements to us. I feel it adds so much more to the quilt show experience. 😘

Mom and I are at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest as well. I see you’re in Woodbridge - we’re in Springfield. I completely agree re: crowding in the vendor area. Mom was in an electric wheelchair and had a VERY hard time getting around - people seemed to not care that they were blocking the way. I hope the show resolves this by widening the space between vendors. Did you see the all white quilt? AMAZING! Lastly, congratulations on your entries - they’re lovely quilts!

Really loved the flying geese quilt, that one is right up my alley. I attended my first quilt show yesterday. It was the Desert Quilters/Nevada show in Henderson just outside of Las Vegas. I was blown away by many of them and made sure to take pictures of the info card on the ones I really liked and might want to make or just for the info. I would like to see them move the quilts further from each other. There were many times I had to use the panoramic feature on my phone to get a picture of the entire quilt. Then of course it was off to Sew Yeah's Birthday Party where I able to stuff at least 4 yards of fabric scraps into a small paper bag for $12!

Congratulations on your quilts being entered and shown at the Mid Atlantic quilt festival!! I was amazed at the level of expertise that was in the quilts that you shared with us. So many of them just take your breath away and, being a newer quilter, they make me look at them in wonder at just how they could possibly be made! It amazes me that quilts like this are even possible. Such beauty and creativity with so much meaning behind them. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. I truly enjoyed it. You were talking about the crowded vendors area.....I started going to the Mid-Atlantic in the 1995 when it was held in Williamsburg. The show was divided between 4 hotels with quilts and vendors at each hotel. That was a real challenge, between having to drive to each hotel, parking, and the number of people, you would be exhausted from bumping into people for hours. Plus, it took two days to see everything. When the show moved to Hampton, it was wonderful, still crowded, but so much better. I have been to the Houston show several times and the vendor area is just as crowded. I have found if you can go to the "sneak peek" night (usually the night before the show opens), you can see the vendors easier. I only do the vendors, see what they have and make decisions on what I want and it cuts down on impulse shopping/buying. Also, a good time is the last day of the show. You can get good deals on some of the big ticket items. I got a great deal on a sewing machine, because even though it was new it had been used as a demo machine for the show, it was considered "used".

I was very glad that you recapped the quilt fest. I am a quilting hermit. I never knew how those quilt shows really worked. That was very interesting. I would like to know more about matchstick quilting. I have googled it. And everyone does it free motion but can you do it with a domestic sewing machine and a walking foot? Thank you for sharing your quilting experiences.

Absolutely!! Tiffany was using a walker, and there were several others using walkers, canes and a couple of scooters. Those smaller booths and vending spaces were a bit hard to navigate. They could have easily taken a bit more of the floor space from the vending area to spread out some!

Those human quilts are so complicated looking. I’ve never done piecing, would that be how they did those?

I think it just depends on the quilt. Some were foundation paper pieced, some were applique, and others might have been english paper pieced!

What about a quilt that is a kit but you use different fabrics... I don't really expect a answer I'm just curious
@sewbecca
7 ай бұрын
I don’t think that is considered a kit. A kit is defined as somebody else providing you the pattern and pulling the fabrics for you. If you buy a kit and you pull your own fabrics, I would say you just use the pattern.
