We don't celebrate people who made it enough. Once they are rich they are branded "greedy" or "corrupt" etc without any consideration of what they did to get there. That is one hell of a story. I must respectfully disagree with your opinion that Toto came from a 'relatively' poor family. I suppose it's worth noting that everything in life is relative but having a Mother who was a Physician and spending the majority of your childhood education in a prestigious private school does not fit with my understanding of 'relatively poor'. Receiving free school meals would equate to relatively poor. And as a child I was a grateful beneficiary of said meals.

Can't knock the hard work and the risk taking but also a big part is right place right time. Being fortunate enough to have been about at just the right time tech stocks were going up and invested was everything. Had that not have happened or he invested too late then his venture capital businesses would not have existed. Would he have been able to get back into motorsport. Bought a share in Williams then been seen by Mercedes and been offered a position there where yes he has one multiple titles but with a team that just so happens to have had one of the best drivers ever and better technical advancements that made a winning car. Management and team strategy obviously play a part but would have won as many and been as successful if he team principal for a team like force India? He's good, but a lot of it is also luck, good fortune and being right place right time. Not a knock on him I think he's awesome and I am a Mercedes fan but he had a lot of Fortunate opportunities that led him to where he is. Everything up until the tech investments was 100% work with no luck. Afterwards is a little different.
@TheMotorMouthPodcast
2 жыл бұрын
Well realistically the harder you work the luckier you get! Yes he was around at the time of the tech bubble but he was smart enough to make the most of it when many weren't. And he was hired by Mercedes because he was one of the best around aswell. To put the majority of his life achievements down to luck is quite short sighted imo 👍
@simonstone7099
2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMotorMouthPodcast I don't put the majority of it down to luck. But there are people who work equally as hard if not harder and never make it because of constantly being screwed over ot missing out on opportunities or not knowing the right people etc. Luck does play an important role in success as well. Check out this video by Veritasum, he explains it much better than I ever could. kzitem.info/news/bejne/lIKl1n1qkpd0Z34 You are right you need the drive and work ethic that Wolf has as he never would have got anywhere, but when you combine it with luck then you get the kinda success he has achieved. Less work ethtic and yes less likely to also be lucky. Great video by the way, really enjoyed watching it. Gonna subscribe!

Running a team of people requires motivation, a resource so expensive when it's in demand but so cheap when it's not. When you go from having no demand for motivation for years and years to suddenly having it in high demand that can break people. I'm not even a Mercedes fan, but i think it's amazing how they've made a shitty situation into a good one in such a small amount of time. Looking forward to watching them. Do be careful though if you are not a trained journalist, as many of these people are based in the UK where defamation laws are unpredictable and strict. The ultra rich can sometimes be offended by surprising things or a throwaway remark. Make sure you have good sources, be prepared to back down and grovel quickly, and consider taking a short law course specifically on defamation or law for journalists. Sadly this may tone down what you can say. But remember these people are rich and obsessive, and sometimes have crazy wives. Ooop, no the don't! They have balanced, wise and generally all round wonderful human beings as their partners, just like them! Nice children. And charming pets!!

So "relatively poor" family in Austria can still afford putting kids in private school?
@anime_addicted9

Tbh you could afford to send a kid or 2 to private school in a country like Austria if it was a cheap private school and you live very basic, most private schools arent acc full of rich kids it’s full off lower middle class kids a lot of the time

That was a very good to watch and listen to. Toto is a driven force with principles, and it works, the people around him must respect him as a result of this. I do not think many people in business behave like that, they are to abrupt and short term thinkers. Well done Toto.

Private schools were much less exclusive than we know private schools to be in Austria in the 80s 👍

I went to school with Toto, he went to "Lycee Francais de Vienne" which was NOT state school, instead an expensive private school. Don't know if he finished this school, would have to ask my brother who went to the same class as him. He is still acquainted with some guys from school, invited a Arab friend of mine to the Abu Dabi Grand Prix were he sat next to Toto during the race. Toto is a cool guy, very nice and very smart and ambitious!

VERY well put together video - an inspiring and incredible life story for sure! Love to have a chat with you sometime about a mini-documentary series I've started called 'Motorsport In The Electric Age'. I filmed Episode 1 of that at Mercedes F1 in Brackley and elsewhere.

To be fair he did not make the team championship winning - Brawn and the engine team did that. He kept them at the top til 2021, which is a great achievement. But to be fair he profited a lot of the advantage they had from the beginning und the pretty stable regulations (no banning blown diffusor, flexi wings, etc)

I mean 'relatively poor' surely means he shouldn't have been able to afford private school? Maybe different in Austria but here in England only the top 5 percent or so go to it, most go to state or state grammar schools if they can get in?

Yeh i think in Austria at the time it was a much different system. And I guess he grew up relatively poor after his father passed away 👍

@@TheMotorMouthPodcast you shouldn't "think" and "guess" when you make a video like this, you must be SURE of what you're saying, other way you are just an amateur giving opinion and not explaining fact

I don't think his parents were poor, but probably spent a big part of their income on education for their kids, and when their father passed their mother couldn't continue to pay the school bill
