If there's any one thing that I feel WotLK really nailed above all else, it's healing. I've never had as much fun healing in WoW as I did during Wrath. It was fast paced, exciting, and all about timing. Every GCD counted and if you could stay on top of raid encounters, anticipate damage and stay ahead of it all, it counted for so, so much. As gear got better throughout the expansion and mana became less of a limitation, things like having the foresight to pre-hot players before a large damage spike, or pre-casting a massive group heal right before the boss does an AoE, really allowed good healers to shine. The difference between good and bad healers got wider than ever, and if you were good, you *really* shined. I was never much of a fan of the whole "huge health pools, tiny heals" model that was introduced in Cata, and has persisted to some extent in every single expansion after that point to this day. Healing was always still fun and I kept at it through every expansion, but it was never the same. The health of a raid began to feel like a massive bucket that everyone just poured heals into as we watched the collective raid health slowly fill up. Timing mattered less, it was just less satisfying. It's good to have that timing aspect of healing back in classic. I love being able to cast a greater heal on a DPS and know it will take them straight to full, it's something I've missed since Cata launched. But I'll be damned if Wrath wasn't the absolute pinnacle for me, and I can't wait to experience it again if Classic ever continues to that point.

I can understand how people who started playing in Wrath like Wrath so much. If you spend the first couple of months levelling and hit 80 when Ulduar is about to come out, it is a pretty good expansion. The problem for all the existing players (myself included) was the fact that T7 was so horrible that it made you wanna quit. And while Ulduar felt epic, you couldn't help but feel like a guinea pig during this expansion where Blizzard seemed to try and figure out how to fix a problem that they created themselves. Raiding in TBC was fine and the player count kept growing. The growth only stopped when Blizzard tried to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. Also, in retrospect a lot of problems had their origin in Wrath: class homogenization, split raids, undertuned dungeons (due to lfd)

The guild and I were mostly IRL friends and we met other similar players who we are all still friends with to this very day. All of us were fairly new to the raiding aspect of the game, we were all playing years before but never thought we would ever set foot into a raid. I got to dip my toes into the waters of Ulduar with my friend's father. Told the guys all about it and sure enough we were recruiting ppl in ToC to try and test our mettle in the legendary halls of ICC. Mind you this was fairly late into the release of ICC. But we didn't want any carries or help. All 10 of us worked for everything we had and we wanted to prove that we could do it. We finally set foot into the great halls in mid September of 2010 for the very first time. Made some amazing friends, had a blast wiping to professor putricide and especially Sindragosa. So young and green we were. Our very first real raid, our chance to prove that we could do it just like our moms and dads had with their own guilds. We were a family and we stuck to it. Every week pushing harder and harder. Sindragosa took us 44 attempts. Then we did it. Pull# 68 on The Lich King. We finally killed him on october 16th 2010. A few years before this we would stay the night over at each others house and play Warcraft 3 the frozen throne. We knew who Arthas was, and Illidan, and Sylvanas, thrall, rexxar, all of them. We knew who the Lich King was. He was dead, killed by us. The cacophonous roar over Vintrillo was ecstasy. We never claimed to be pros at the game, we didn't care. This was for us, and we took it. This story is a part of our lives, this world, the characters, the plots, everything. You can claim that you've left it all behind you but when Totems of the Grizzle Maw play something pulls your heart strings. You never let go.

Welfare epics was one of the 3 factors that broke wow. It nullified all previous content since all you had to do to get current raid gear is clear some daily heroics. If in TBC a new character had to go through dungeons, then heroics, then early raids, then mid raids and finally hit BT or Sunwell. In wrath you could skip everything by afking in Dalaran, then when ICC hit just run some heroics and get ICC gear, which meant that as soon as ICC came out, naxx, ulduar, etc became null and void as there was no reason to run them.

We could have had 1 person piloting the vehicle while another person sat in the back casting spells. In the case of melee characters, one person drives while the melee could hang from the vehicle and take swipes at nearby enemies. We could even give them a little extra range. Hard mode bosses did exist before and even after wrath. Bug royalty in AQ40 was really the first boss to have this. You got improved loot by making the fight harder (kill order), hell OS had a scaling difficulty with all 3 drakes being the hard mode. In Terrace of the endless springs, the first boss did have a hard mode. You leave the melee guy up last and you got "elite" pieces of gear. And while these two are not raids, but mega dungeons (basically mini raids), Return to Karazhan and a hard mode only boss (Nightbane) which required you to speed clear through the instance up to Curator. Clicking on 5 crystals and then running to where you fight Nightbane and talking to the shade of Medivh. nightbane rewarded higher item level loot compared to the rest of the dungeon and those pieces could interact with other items from the dungeon making them more powerful. Operation Mechagon requires you to do 6 bosses on hard mode in order to get a mount and an azerite helmet. To say that hard mode bosses were exclusive to Ulduar is factually wrong.

We have neglected the school and always had to look for our parents, because they dont wanted us to play 10 hours a day. So they used an internet stick and we only could play 2 hours/day. But someday I found out where they are hiding the stick and we joined back in the world of warcraft again but always had to look out for our parents. Man I miss this times, We were so addicted xD I can even feel this addiction when I remeber back at these times. Blizz please give us tbc and wotlk back like u did for classic

starting from classic and ending on wotlk mostly I felt about wow same as about mass effect trilogy, where 1 is the greatest of unknowns, 2nd full of changes and pop's favourite and 3rd where the feeling of beating the game definitely exists, not necessary satisfying but the whole way to get there is a he'll of a travel and that travel I definitely appreciate.

I really hope classic servers get proper segregated legacy server support. While I LOVE classic and have been playing TBC on a private server, Wrath killed the game for me. The fact that all of the casually accessible content was reduced to faceroll level really hurt my interest in the game. As someone who now has a job and a life, the idea that the core gameplay loop for everything outside of the most hardcore raid content is just kinda snooze mode is something that, in my opinion, REALLY hurt the casual side of the game. It's what makes BFA feel like you're doing a job instead of playing a game. It turns open world content into 1000x the grind that it normally is. I also hated that they removed a lot of the unique class utility starting in Wrath. Not that Classic is any better with the 14 year old meta, but at the time, TBC was the peak of class balance. Each class had SOMETHING they could excel in, while still bringing their own unique buffs to the table. Ironically, the Bring-the-player-not-the-class philosophy started the whole class-stacking thing IIRC. There was no reason to ever bring a Shaman to raids in Wrath because why would you when Mages could Bloodlust while doing more damage, Priests healed more, and everyone else brought the same buffs you could bring while doing your role better Add to that the gearscore elitism you mentioned and people throwing tantrums when a dungeon took 1 minute and 3 whole extra seconds to clear, and ironically the elitism skyrocketed. I stopped playing for most of WoTLk, came back for Cata when heroics were hard again, and then quit the moment they were nerfed. Didn't come back until classic.

my main issue with heroic raids isn't that the raids are hard. it's how it interacts with gear progression and late game scaling specs. crit, haste, arp just scaled to wtf levels and resilience didn't keep up. top it off with two powerful legendary weapons.

WoTLK was the peak of subs because people were getting fed up with the loss of long progression and the catch-up mechanics Then LFG killed the community. The hardcore were sick of having their efforts devalued every tier, the mid tier felt therte was no point in playing because they wouldn't finish the tier before all the items from the tier didn't matter, and the casuals got what they wanted to "see the content" but it didn't feel like an accomplishment because it was easy to achieve... The actual peak of the game was TBC. Any gains in subs wrath had was just from the momentum Vanilla and TBC generated.
@DriftNick
4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by loss of long progression and hardcore players being their efforts devalued?
@Taronas
4 жыл бұрын
@@DriftNick the need to progress through raid tiers was removed. blizz started dropping so much catch up gear/mechanics with each raid tier you could just skip right to that tier without the need to do any prior content... when someone can just skip right to the point in something that you are at without putting in the same effort it devalues your effort. If you are working hard for something then suddenly you are just given a free pass through it that also lessens the feeling of accomplishment... in vanilla and TBC there was some skipping you could do but it wasn't nearly as egregious as in Wrath and later

That's one of the things i didn't like.. The gear difference between Naxx t7 and ICC 25hc t10.5 was HUUUGEEEE unlike Tier 4 vs tier 6 in TBC. PVP too, with full Furious gear you had no chance to kill someone who had full Wrathful gear. Meanwhile Merciless had a chance against Brutal if he was good enough. I remember 100% armor pen classes doing insane Crits compared to lets say 60% or even 80%.

occulus was the easiest and quickest dungeon in the expansion, the issue was due to ignorance on what to do with the dragons, then being petty because they didnt want to understand you press 1 then spam 3 a few times while occasionally pressing 2 to time stop. it was hilarious to see people brag about their complex rotations not being about to understand a 3 button "rotation" where you just pressed one of them a bunch of times.

My problem with catchup gear is that you don't do previous raid tiers. I'd be much better if badges were earned through raiding, instead of dungeons, or they just doubled the drop rate, so you can fully(or almost fully)gear in 2x weeks per raid tier. It's fun raiding, loot is just a small part of raiding imo, the biggest one is the gameplay and mechanics.

We used to raid 4 night's a week for 4 hours in Wotlk all to the end. Slow but steady progression-guild, but after two years of doing soo it only too me a few months to never wanted to go back into raiding once Cata came out. It was a sort of "nah, I've done this before - cba". So I quit raiding and lvld up alts instead for the next 2 exp. I personally don't regret it, all the hype around Arthas had ended, hard to beat that without a few exp. of milking, which is imo all blizz has been doing since. Ultimatly I quit once halfway through Firelands, came back to lvl in Pandaria but, meh.

My problem with the dungeon finder, and later the raid finder tool, are that they destroyed the feeling of community that we had when everything was serverside only. People were more free to be toxic and kick you form the group if they didn't like you, or if they thought you were doing too poorly. This is why I think that classic/tbc are the best era's of the game. While Wrath was fun it was my least favorite experience in WoW to that point. It was also the last expansion I played to it's completion from the beginning.

I personally think the elmblem system was great. I think it should have gone even farther and all the raids have a specific emblem that drops off the bosses with enough you should be able to buy an item from that raid. that way you can always feel like your progressing towards something, even if the item you want doesnt drop. like right now in TBC every god damn caster in the game wants skull of guldan. to the point where i dont even want to see it drop cause i know my chances of winning it are slim to none with 11 other casters wanting it. Maybe make an exception for mounts and legendary items.

You may not see the harm in allowing people to skip tiers of content via badges, and it has obvious upsides with regards to convenience, but it does a few -very- harmful things to the game. It undermines effort spent by hardcore raiders when all the effort they have put in is suddenly worthless as soon as the next patch cycle starts. But not -only- that, it also makes the treadmill of never ending grind for the newest gear transparent. If I spend all of Naxx and Ulduar working hard to make progress, then take a break. I would expect my gear to still be considered decent when I return in a few months. In actual fact, my hard earned gear is now considered trash, and everyone who has spammed a few hc's not only has comparable gear to me, they have -better- gear than me. It also makes -old- content obsolete beyond the farming of badges. More people might be viewing the top content, but less are viewing the old, that doesn't seem like a win? Why go through the effort of mastering Ulduar hard modes in all their glory when I can get some badge gear and go straight to ToC? Wrath might have been the best expansion made, had they not made the choice to change they badges available each patch.

He was famous on my server for being the worse tank to ever try tanking everyone made fun of him in trade chat, couldn't hold aggro and blamed everyone but himself for being so bad and when LFG happend his legend spread it was glorious.

My opinion is making your game "accessible" ruins the play-ability. As I see it the reason people wanted to raid is for the exclusivity in gear it offered and the challenge. In TBC you had to work hard BEFORE and AFTER you got into raiding to earn/keep a spot on a raid team. But in WotLK you were just given a spot no matter what because it was made so "accessible." The raids were good, but if the player has no reason to play before or after the raid, then why would they stay? While the numbers in WotLK were also the best, saying this made WotLK better is a bit of a misunderstanding of the statistic. The effects on the player culture WotLK had would obviously not show themselves till later expansions, which I think it did. Since WotLK I noticed a large trend of players who would only subscribe long enough to collect all the current token gear, do a raid, and then unsubscribe till the next content patch. This obviously got a lot worse in Cata with LFR giving these less dedicated players less reason to stay consistently playing. It's like that economic stimulus policy a president puts in place and does extremely well now, only for a housing market bubble collapse to occur with the next president in office due to the policy.

best expansion to date for sure. the 12.5 million subscriber number also says this. it has never been that high, not even in Legion, where it reached 10 million. they stopped releasing numbers after that but we all know BFA was so much worse, it fell down to 4.5 million after a few months and then they stopped releasing sub numbers because they were embarrassed. 18:10 nightelf Mowhawk! Cataclysm ruined WoW forever in my opinion. I loved the old world, which is why classic was such a blast at first, until I realized I didn't want to re-raid everything I had already killed. the Vanilla world was better than the world after Cata. sure, Uldum was ok, and mount Hijal, I didn't care for at all. that said I only leveled through them to get to Mists, I didn't come back to WoW until 5.4. I quit in 3.3 and came back in 5.4. in between that I was playing Star Wars, the Old Republic.
