This reminded me when my squadron was ordered to the parade ground to welcome the new base commander. While we were in formation, the "present arms" order was given. We all just stood there not knowing what to do when our First Sergeant quietly said "Salute, you dumb-asses." The guy next to me muttered that he thought "present arms" meant that we had to show our weapons, but being in a medical squadron, we did have any.

about 15 years ago, i was a brand new E-1 working at an NCOA that's closed down now, and i'll never forget the time i went into the bowling alley on my way home cus i saw my toxic leadership coming down the sidewalk on their way back to our building. i didn't even know retreat was about to play, i was just trying to avoid those hateful people who always treated me horrible. well, they saw me go into the bowling alley and they followed me in. the CMSgt joked around with me to lure me into a false sense of security, then forced me to go outside with the two MSgts who always followed her around like her little lapdogs, we all stood there at attention while retreat played, then the Chief proceeded to turn around and scream at me for being disrespectful to the flag right there in front of the bowling alley. the next day, my MSgt supervisor made me go through reporting orders to report to him, and he then formally presented me with an LOR for dodging retreat. i wrote a rebuttal that was never even included in my PIF. they also forced me to prepare a history briefing of the American flag and present it in front of all the NCOA students. this was all while i was literally a no-stripe airman. that's not even the worst thing they did to me during that hellish time i worked in that nightmare assignment. i'll never forget it and will have such a fun time recounting those memories and dropping those names during my retirement ceremony in 5 years :)

Aye just remember at the end of the day You get your retirement package Make sure you documented all injuries in detail and just know people in all jobs there’s someone trying to degrade to compensate for their own unhappiness especially back in the day But don’t hold that burden in your heart anymore. Nobody likes to get bullied or disrespected or humiliated so I’m not saying you don’t have the right to be hurt about it Especially if that pain motivated you to do better But at some point Let it go because that desire to get the last lick in on the way out the door might sound fulfilling But it just gives you more burden to think about. There’s nothing to gain. You accomplished the mission just take the trophy and be out. No need to trip at the finish line. If you Take that time to focus on your great accomplishments the dirts bags don’t deserve your moment you earned it Uncle Sam will be paying you out every month Lastly I was a paralegal 27D and saw decorated soldiers with 15years in get chaptered out for mistakes. So don’t let your guard down finish strong finish proud Keep focused like you’re still the E1 who got in trouble for no reason
